Does China or Japan want them?
As a practical matter, we should have removed the Hawaiians from the islands, liberated them. Outside of the tourist enclaves, it is a 3rd world cesspool.
I’d cite the documentation but I’d prefer that you and others do your own as how one interprets a scholarly finding (not some one’s baseless opinions often found in online articles) might be different.
Those numbers are close to correct as I recall. There were vastly more people on the continents than commonly believed - all this is coming to light as people go back and study what was written at the time in light of extensive new finds across the US and in the Amazon forests.
And yes we do know when and how they died - mostly smallpox and mass slaughter - not to mention the near complete cultural destruction.
I get your point and like your humor. But, this would be fast tracked to the Supremes ....
I have read a number of articles on this subject.
The numbers are hotly contested.
Determining populations and deaths that occurred when almost no records were being kept is extremely difficult.
Populations are recorded in early Spanish explorers - it just that no one has looked at their writings in nearly a century or more until just in the last 2 years.
These are detailed accounts that have long been forgotten. “Almost no records” is not true. No one has looked or have discounted their records as fantasies because “everyone knows no one lived there or in just very small numbers”. The prevailing “consensus” is like the consensus for MM global warming - it has to fit pre-existing models and bolster reputations.
The latest “everyone knows consensus” to be over turned is the Clovis First Theory. Which had prevailed due to the force and vehemence of certain personalities for decades - is now acknowledged to be false. This is a rapidly evolving field and what was true yesterday is proving to be false in light of new discoveries. So keep and open mind here.
Your comment made me laugh, Oldexpat. I thought her little tweet was humorous, too. She didn’t bother saying, “Gun violence is a leading cause of death for Americans”, which it isn’t. She specifically targeted people of color. And her implication is this: “Black men are shooting themselves more than other demographics, so we must confiscate everyone’s firearms.”
If you think about her statement, it’s actually incredibly racist and deflects blame away from people like herself. She appears to imply that this one group of people is incapable of addressing a statistic of violence in any other constructive, constitutionally agreeable way. I think Harris should instead address the fact that gun violence is likely higher among black men today because for the last 40 years, Democrats (like her) have largely been responsible for destroying urban centers and cities with “progressive” legislation, promoting a system of welfare, crime, and unemployment. Let’s also not forget the draconian anti-crime laws passed by the Clinton administration in the 90’s. Those bills put hundreds of thousands of black men (and many others) behind bars for potentially decades, over minor and often nonviolent offenses.
If Democrats want to place blame for gun violence in minority communities, they should look in the mirror and not at the Second Amendment.
Good thing we didnt have that insipid
mentality in 1776, 1812, 1861, 1941, etc.
War has already been declared on decent Americans
by a rainbow connection of freaks
There are people in Hawaii very adamant about reclaiming sovereignty. But, I think that most Hawaiians understand/realize that they are better off as US Citizens Or.... that Federal welfare benefits wouldn’t be available to a poor struggling nation. So, the entire Hawaii nation thing is really just a feel good thing by the dopers to sound self important...
Accurate analysis.
