COVID-19 in UK vs Africa

You can’t run a police state without snitches. There could never be enough police. In the UK as in East Germany, there is no shortage of informants. They managed to ruin a 10-year-old girl’s birthday party by ratting her out...One day authorities will get it through to Macdonald that Big Government is all the family she needs. For now, she has been placed on a coronavirus watchlist, so she had better wear her mask and refrain from placing anti-lockdown signs in the window.

African countries don’t have the means to impose lockdowns and a panopticon government like the UK. COVID-19 casualties must be through the roof, right? Wrong...The continent’s case fatality count stands at 2.4%, with roughly 35,000 deaths among the more than 1.4 million people reported infected with COVID-19, according to Reuters data as at late Monday. In North America, it is 2.9% and in Europe 4.5%

Granted Africa has a higher percentage population of younger people, but isn't it interesting that actual Africans are doing so much better than African Americans?

I contend that a lot of it probably has to do with fewer Africans eating processed food. They may be eating pawpaws or papayas infected with Covid, but they are eating fresh pawpaws or papayas.

The UK has its share of people with weight problems. I don't think continental Europe does so much. But I doubt many of their nursing homes are even up to the standard of our even our mediocre nursing homes.

Malaria is prevalent in Africa, and HCQ is a cheap and effective treatment for it, available OTC in many 3rd world countries.

Remember hearing somewhere that it is also effective against the Wuhan flu. Maybe I'm mistaken ... :^)

I’d bet Africa isn’t doing as well as reported. One thing that skews the statistics is that the U.S. ‘official’ reporting is much more thorough than virtually everywhere. This is why the U.S. has a higher newborn death rate than many countries. If a newborn takes a single breath and dies, he/she is counted. In some countries if a kid dies a week or two after birth, it is not recorded.

I seriously doubt that any nation in Africa has medical record keeping on a par with ours. People die from so many things in Africa and nobody is going to investigate the cause of death.

I've seen this conversation before.

Africa is doing better because of one thing: Malaria.

What is the treatment for Malaria: Hydroxychloroquine.

Africans in High Risk for Malaria environments have either taken or are taking the cure.

You can bet your sweet bippy that if the Africans were given tens of thousands of dollars for each death that they reported as caused by or involved with COVID-19, their reported numbers would be huge!

I think you have it right. Fewer tests, fewer cases.
