The way I see it, is that after the spent casing is ejected, the only thing keeping a second (loaded) round from following up and out while the slide is back is the lips on the mag. There is great spring pressure there, but the round normally is held from going straight up by the lips. It can only get out of a normal mag by being dragged forward (into the chamber) by the slide. That photo in post 217 must be a photoshop.
