My sleep apnea was so bad that I was perpetually terrified of the power going out in the middle of the night.

I was set up with a ResMed Airsense 10. The full face mask didn't work well. I shifted to the nasal cradle. Better, but still not ideal. Finally settled on the P30I nasal pillows. That has been a winner. My test was running 15 events per hour with a mix of obstructive and central apnea. The CPAP has reduced that to a range of 0.5 to 3 events per hour. I still have some sleep upsets from neuropathy in my legs and rheumatoid arthritis in my spine, but getting the apnea under control has significantly reduced nodding off during the workday.

The nasal pillow requires some discipline to keep your mouth shut. If not, the air goes in your nose and out of your mouth leading to a very dry mouth and poor therapeutic value for lack of actual pressure to the lungs. Due to that discipline, a power off is like having a pillow placed over your face. 100% air cut off. I can just reach up and unclip the hose adapter from the mask frame to immediately resolve that or pull the mask off completely. No approach is perfect for the mask or pillows, but good therapy is appreciated in the morning.
