Unfortunately, that part of the loaf I'm settling for is getting smaller and smaller... Seems that way to me too, but that is partially deceptive.
The first political campaign I worked on was Goldwater in '64. He was a part of the hardest right wing of the Republican Party. We drove the moderate 'mainstream' Republicans under Nelson Rockefeller to the wall. AuH2O was way way to far right to ever get elected.
He didn't change his position on anything, yet by the '96 election he was a part of the loonie left of the Republican Party. The viewpoint of the whole country had moved that far right.
If you want to know what conservatives think of him now, look at what they call me on various threads, besides AntiChrist I mean.
In 1970, Pres. Richard Milhouse Nixon (R) proposed a guaranteed annual income in the form of a negative income tax on the unemployed and low paid. Not even Ralph Nader and the Green Party would propose something so radically left today.
In 1988 when Dick Armey started pushing a Single Rate Income Tax, or a National Sales Tax to replace it entirely, the talking heads just laughed and dismissed it, they wouldn't even bother to discuss something so wacky.
Today, they are part of the mix in any discussion of tax reform.
In 1980 the Republicans chose Ronald Reagan, who, as governor, had signed the most liberal abortion law in the nation, far more liberal than anything required by the Supreme Court. In 1984, after he had done nothing to push anti-abortion legislation at all, we renominated and reelected him.
No one who had that record today could be nominated and elected, much less renominated and reelected in the Republican Party.
We tend to see the spots where we have lost ground, because they hurt, not the wins that seem our just due.

I am not surprised to hear that you like worms. Anybody that would speak of sucking crawfish heads would like worms..... I always said, any woman who will suck crawfish heads for pleasure is a good bet for a fun date.

Great speech by Buckley.
I hope Kerry doesn't melt down as quickly as Dean.
His "police action and subpoena serving" will surely terrify and bring the Islamofascists and other bad guys to their knees.
Can't wait.
Hey Loddy....your ammo won't help if these guys win....don't give me that crap about lesser evils.....

As I recall, old AuH2O became very liberal in his old age. Most attribute his left leanings to his very young liberal wife's influence.

I'm hoping to hit the pillow with no thoughts of Darks standing at his computer willing the thread to die.
:-)
On that note....I'm heading out early.

One does not suck crawfish heads for pleasure, Sir. One sucks the crawfish heads for the sheer pleasure of a tasty delight known as crawfish fat. Now, most ladies don't suck dem heads, but place their little delicate fingers into the crawfish body and extract the fat. LOL
You would be a perfect date if you bought me five pounds of boiled crawfish and danced the two-step to chanky chank cajun music. Oh, but wait, you hate to dance. giggle

As I recall, old AuH2O became very liberal in his old age. Most attribute his left leanings to his very young liberal wife's influence. They say that, but if you get out "Conscience of a Conservative" and the '64 Republican Party Platform and the actual quotes of what he was saying in the '90s you will find he did not change a single position.
What changed was the definition of a conservative and a liberal.

It's very nice, but very complicated. I need to spend more time with the menus and functions.

Actually, I think Goldwater was more of a Libertarian than a Conservative.

Too bad you can't keep up with Cajun men. LOL That has something to do with the fact that Texans wash crawdads down with shots of Tequila instead of beer
