The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

We had nothing protein-ish at home. Nothing. So I'm getting beef with pea pods... mmm...

Then it isn't along the lines of what I experiment with.

Just groundwater....nothing fun like animal tissue.

Mmm...that sounds good.

We're supposedly going out for our Christmas lunch - though we have to pay for our own meals. However, the mail server has been puking and coughing all morning, so we may not be able to get away.

Visit? I'd like to move.... blame Heinlein. Have Space Suit, Will Travel; The Man who Sold the Moon; The Menace from Earth; It's Great to be Back... all sold me on the Moon before I was 12.

That's something I might enjoy doing when the kids are all grown and gone!

Yeah, I feel that way about old people in retirement homes too. I just want to hug them.

This new leaner hobbit hole was built quickly, but it seems homey enough!

Frodo looked round. It did look like home. Many of his own favourite things - or Bilbo’s things (they reminded him sharply of him in their new selling) - were arranged as nearly as possible as they had been at Bag End. It was a pleasant, comfortable, welcoming place; and he found himself wishing that he was really coming here to settle down in quiet retirement. And in that same vein, Peregrin Took and I declare this a perfect spot for camp (although he was not too happy about missing yet ANOTHER tavern on the way. I told him he could make a beeline back to Hooters any ol' time...we needed his help in setting things up!!

"You do not understand!" said Pippin. "You must go - and therefore we must, too. Merry and I are coming with you. Sam is an excellent fellow, and would jump down a dragon's throat to save you, if he did not trip over his own feet, but you will need more than one companion in your dangerous adventure."

Well, not that Id call that jonalyv1 person all that dangerous...Lurtz love makes me laugh hysterically...

But Pippin and I are glad to be here.

BTW.... Did you get someone to take Frodo?

Where is he going?

Timing is almost short enough that if no one specifically wants him for Christmas (how sad) then we should just ship him to Ruthy or ksen!

If you ever get the chance to visit Johnson Space Center or Cape Canaveral, do it. The last two Saturn V's are there. OMG standing beside one is vey humbling, and way cool.

By the time I was 12 I had read a lot of the old science fiction stuff too. My uncle worked for a book store, and he paid my babysitting fees in paperbacks without the front covers on them. A lot of Doc Savage and really great old SF like STurgeon, PK Dick, and Frederick Pohl etc. I couldn't get enough of it.
