The 9-11 Commision

Posted on 03/30/2004 2:12:42 PM PST by aft_lizard

I was just thinking that maybe the hold out on Condi testifying is actually a very good thing. Consider this after 3 or 4 weeks of Clarke's story dying Condi and the Administration get a good day of wall to wall coverage without competing against anybody elses testimony on the same day. As we saw today that the Presidents news conferance garnered coverage from the Broadcast alphabets plus the usual cable outlets, the AAR's on the big three networks as far as I could tell werent bad, and although I agree with the idea of executive privilege, this compromise may be the best thing politically for the administration, it will focus for a time on Bush and Condi's statement rather than the ne'er do wells.

Exactly. Also, there has been so much hype over getting her to testify that she'll get more prominent coverage than she would have otherwise.

She also gets the last word in this way.

They are throwing her into the briar patch.

What is this thing about the Bush Administration dragging their feet over 911-Commission?

Pray for Condi......this is going to be one day that she can not falter, no misstep's will go unnoticed.....she must be at her absolute best. I sure wouldn't want her job!

I hope that the public will be able to see how much these Dems can be jerks. I expect the Dems to set her up and string her out. This entire thing is nothing but Butcher politics. I sure hope that Condi is very, very good!

I don't think it's such a bad idea. In fact, I think part of the stalling is intentional....get the Dems so in a titter about having Condi testify that they'll kind of wish in the end they never pushed the issue so hard when she takes the stand. I have a lot of faith in Condi and the way she'll handle herself....kind of like "OK, you want a piece of me? Let's rumble...." in a very cutting, but civilized way.

I agree. Local talk show host made prediction today that she would knock them dead with her testimony. It was like Ol Breyer Rabbit, dont force me to testify in public, oh please, please dont force me to do that. Be careful about what you wish for Democrats.

What is this thing about the Bush Administration dragging their feet over 911-Commission?

Real simple. It focuses all the DNC "News Medias" attention on Terrorism and away from Kerry. Kerry is plunging in the polls and cannot get any face time because the DNC "News Media" is hyperventalting over the 9-11 Comission. Kind of nice that Bush's political enemies are spending the months of March and April focusing all the attention on the issues HE is strongest and THEY are appalling weak. Rope-a-Dope Bush strikes again!

Wishful thinking. The purpose of the commission is to destroy Bush. It has no other purpose.

Ah but the Commission has all ready destroyed it's own credibility. Because it had to whitewash Clinton appalling failure to deal with Bin Laden, it has rendered judgments that mountains of data clearly show are partisan. Take just the Sudan offer of Bin Laden's arrest. The Commission is ALL READY on record as claiming that there is "no credible evidence of the Sudan story" yet we have Clinton ON TAPE talking about it? Even if the Commission trys to destroy Bush, there is MOUNTAINS of evidence showing how partisan the 9-11 Commission really is.
