I just dashed this off real quick, having been meaning to do so for several days, and had meant to be able to sit here for a bit and respond to any inquiries regarding my message and its content, but unfortunately I unexpectedly am called away.
I'll be back later this evening, though, to address any concerns. This is one of the best political sites on the web, and I'd like to keep it that way. Only a select few are guilty of what I've alleged, but as the saying goes, one proverbial rotten apple spoils the barrel.
Cheers!

I've encountered more shrill, radical nonsense in the past couple of days than I had in the months before my absence. This is what keeps me coming back. Nothing better or funnier than watching these types of people (usually Trolls) being debunked by Freepers in real-time.
Certainly it's acceptable to gloat a bit after our enormous gains on November 2, but I do believe it's about time to get back to normal business.
We will need at least a couple of more wins like Nov 2 to get the sting of Klinton out of our systems. BTW, I forgot to mention that I'm still tap dancing because W won! We can still celebrate and rub it in while we go ahead with our business.
This is the sort of stuff you find at DU, not here.
DU is a bunch of the sky is falling, unhappy, whiners. I cannot say the same for FR.

These are just a few examples of the devolution of discourse here.I think somebody has spiked the punch.
Bottoms up!!!

I love "extremists" on the right, like radical FReeple who believe that "shall not be infringed" actually does mean "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED"!
Extremism in the defence of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

I find the atmosphere on FR to be particularly heavy with methane lately, but I think that's mostly my fault.

You consider RINO over the top???
I am guessing you don't like to hear people disagree with you very often.
Once again someone tries to define the debate with a pointless argument over semantics. There is nothing uncivil about calling someone a "Republican in name only" unless you can not tolerate being challenged.

This is the sort of stuff you find at DU, not here. With all due respect, Free Republic is nothing like the DU in any way, shape, or form...and most folks who post as if they were posting at the DU typically get banned in short order.

I think lots of us are just not ready to give up our "gloat fest". Have you been to DU? The nicest thing they call us is "repukes". They save the foulest names for President Bush.
Maybe after Jan 20 things will calm down around here but that is when the DUmmies are going to start calling for President Bush's impeachment, actually they already are.

I agree. It does seem like the signal-to-noise ratio hereabouts has gotten worse. Shall we all try to do better?

While I may agree with some of what you say, using the term RINO is a good, short way to describe those who would pose as conservative Republicans. I am however concerned at quick use of it every time someone disagrees with a politician. I have seen Senators with 90%+ ACU ratings called RINO's by those who have no damn clue what they are talking about.

...but anyone can tell you Yushchenko as president will be much better for the Ukrainian people, our interests in Iraq be damned. He may very well need those troops in the Ukraine to keep the peace.

You can put this in your history file:
- The DemocRATS have been called RATS almost since the beginning of FR. Especially after the infamous Republican political ad during the 2000 presidential election when the letters RATS lingered on the screen a few micro-seconds longer than the rest of the word DEMOCRATS.
- A RINO has always been known as a RINO here. The term may have even originated on FR...at least this is the first place I ever saw it used.
The terms are here to stay...deal with it!

Referring to Democrats as Rats or some variant thereof may be somewhat amusing, but seeing the reference in nearly every other post really gets annoying at times. The RATs actually worked for and and earned the name fair and square during the 2000 Campaign.
My sons, who are in town for Christmas, and I had a discussion about the RATs name last night. That one isn't going away for a long time.
