INVASION USA Mexico threatens Arizona over anti-illegals measure Official says challenge in international courts possible to block voter-passed Proposition 200

A Mexican government official has threatened to use international courts to block an Arizona law meant to limit public benefits and voting rights to legal residents of the U.S.

Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said in a radio interview Wednesday that an international strategy would be used if other attempts to reverse Proposition 200 fail, the Associated Press reported.

"We are seeking all the legal opportunities that exist, first using the legal capacities of the United States itself and ... if that does not work, bringing it to international tribunals," AP quotes Derbez as saying.

Mexican officials have repeatedly complained about Proposition 200, which went into effect Tuesday. The statewide measure denies most taxpayer benefits to illegal aliens and requires state workers to report applicants for such benefits who may not be eligible. It also requires anyone registering to vote in the state to show proof of citizenship and bring a government-issued ID to the polling place.

AP reported Derbez expressed regret that, according to polls, about 40 percent of Mexican-Americans in Arizona supported Prop. 200. The measure passed with 60 percent of the vote.

"It's sad, and it gives an idea of how we have to work to educate even our own Mexican-Americans about why it is important that these proposals are not accepted," Derbez said.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund has challenged Prop. 200, saying it is "an illegal, impermissible, unconstitutional state attempt to regulate immigration policy, which is a fundamental function and responsibility of our federal government. Proposition 200 is mean-spirited and un-American."

I think it's time American Taxpaying Citizens declared war on Mexico since our government won't do it. How about a taxpayer class action suit to recoup our tax money?

International courts have NO jurisdiction over our affairs in my humble opinion! Are we, as a sovereign nation, going to permit an international court to dictate our internal affairs? When did the state of Arizona relinquish this right to the federal government as the 10th Amendment requires?

They will go to the Hugue because Mexico has had success with the UN courts ruling in their favor in similar cases. However Washington should be viewed powerless to intervene under the authority of the individual states.

The problem with ARizona is that most of those in power are the open borders crowd. They fought this Prop with everything they had. I can't invision them intervening in support.

I think the powers that be don't really think this subject is worth discussing.
Plus, it's embarrassing for the President, hence it gets the chat room treatment.
Oh well.

Time to build a concrete "fence" on our border. Keep 'em from getting here to collect the bennies in the first place.

This is the type of concrete fence (below) that Homeland Security recommends for protecting water reservoirs, etc. It's an incredibly fast type of construction, and it can't be cut like a chain link fence.

www.concretefence.com/pages/homelandsecurity

If it's good enough for protecting our water supplies, it ought to be good enough for our border!

Click on this link (below), it's animated, and shows how the panels install:

What's Mexico going to do about it? Invade Arizona? That might pi$$ off Texas. And the Mexicans don't want to do that. This time we might keep Mexico...no, bad idea. Nothing would be gained except a headache.

No, it is because the president's blindness, either willful or naive, to the dual threats of Islam and illegals, is his Achilles heel, and there are some on this forum that will stand for no criticism of Bush, however wrong some of his policies may be.

but think of all that oil...here we come with another war on oil! I heard halliburton was releasing its business report to Wall Street today so it should be ready to wage war again for another profit filled year. Seriously, Mexico is asking for more than it can handle, especially with the added mess about the US not being diplomatic enough about warning its citizens about traveling safety and the drug wars going on. Yes, we're going to see McCain and that crazy Dem Gov put their hands up and surrender to the big bad international court, claiming they had no choice. This will probably WORK.

Remember the movie "The Mouse That Roared"? A small bankrupt country declares war on the U.S. in order to get foreign aid.

It appears Mexico wants their ass kicked, in hopes of receiving a few more U.S. dollars.

Bring it on!

"we have to work to educate even our own Mexican-Americans"

This from the Foreign Secretary of Mexico. Hey Mexian-Americans, how's it feel to be pwned?

Yes I did intentionally spelled it that way. From UrbanDictionary.com

1. pwned A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned." Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned." It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force

"Proposition 200 is mean-spirited and un-American."

Oh well that settles it then. It MUST be unconstitutional on that basis alone.... I'm not quite sure how requiring voter to be citizens is unconstitutional? Heck I thought that the law specifies that only citizens can vote.

It's not that I won't stand for criticism of President Bush. It's just that some people put their criticism in such an ignorant non constructive manner that it does noting to further the debate. But instead only serves to beat the war drums for frothy single issue die hards.
