BTW, the life expectancy is so low because of babies and children's deaths. There were lots of old people then.

Where did you get all those stats, Pastor? It's quite a collection!
Rather misleading because the infant/childhood mortality rate was much higher than today. Just look around at any old cementary and you might be shocked at the large number of early deaths recorded from years preceeding the 1920s.
The infant/child mortality rate of 1905, for instance, would definitely have contributed to pulling down the average life expectancy to 47 years.

Put that in perspective - you have to work an hour to get 2 pounds of sugar and a dozen eggs. The supermarket has a dozen eggs for $1.19 and a 4 lbs of sugar for $1.39, so the equivalent wage is something like $1.80/hour.
Try living on $10 a day.
I wasn't even a state yet............
