My fave was "James and the Giant Peach". I once saw a water tower in South Carolina and it reminded me of that story.

You are no doubt referring to the "Big Peach" on I-85 in Gaffney, SC. We refer to it as the Big Ass to which it bears a striking resemblance. A few years back they modified the look a bit to try to stop the obvious comparisons.

We have a tower like that here in Clanton, AL. It also makes me think of the book!

Richards has been clean, at least from drugs, for years. Probably decades. Thompson never cleaned up and it showed in his writing.

Depp played Jack Sparrow "as Keith Richards." Even when filming this wasn't a secret and then he said so repeatedly in interviews in order to lure Richards into the sequel.

Johnny Depp is a talented actor, and incredibly handsome; too good-looking for his own good. It upset me to learn that he was such a flaming, anti-American idiot, especially since he was Southern born (Kentucky).

LOL!We had the same problem with the one in Clanton. The solution? Paint a giant leaf on top.! Just looks like somebody ran out of toilet paper to me now! :)

I don't boycott good actors based on stupid political statements they make. But I will boycott bad actors for their bad acting. ;)

Eeew, yes that's exactly what I thought. The white makeup and the fixed-face smile, careful, stiff body movements. Talking without lips moving....I wondered if he studied Michael Jackson as a model. I wasn't that excited to see that that was his approach...

It's a Tim Burton film. I expect a little darker, a little strange. But Roadl Dahl was a little darker, a little strange (but also gifted) for a children's author, so...I am planning to see it.

I loved Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean and think he is gifted. He does not speak about politics unless goaded. One quote he made outside one of those award shows (I think it was the Academy Awards) went something like this:

He and his paramour were standing at the roped talking to Starr Jones. She mentioned that they have a five year old daughter and Jones asked them (gushygushy) about whether their daughter would follow in their footsteps and also go into acting.

He gave her a look and asked her to repeat the question. When she did he looked at her, shaking her head, and said something like

"Oh, no. I certainly hope not. She much too intelligent to go into acting."

Chatty Ms. Jones was not expecting that response and was speechless, which was quite and accomplishment. I loved it.

OH, you're in Clanton! We used to drive up from Millbrook to get fresh peach ice cream and go to the Walmsrt Supercenter!

Oh, I love those peaches!

He is downright ugly, IMO. Why is he considered such a sex symbol??

His ideas are ugly too.

Apparently, Hollywood doesn't need anyones help with boycotts. I've seen these for a few movies lately. I'm wondering if this isn't a Rovian plot setup by the petitiononline folks. Anyway, Mr. Depp is a favorite in our household.

"Dead Man" is on my list of all time fave's.

Depp may be over the edge on politics but he is one of a very few actors I'm willing to spend video rental on just because he's in the cast.

And, as noted earlier, he DID actually pick up and leave; but some people simply like France for some reason.

Yep! The peaches are the best. I love the Millbrook area. At one time we were looking to buy a house out there. But my husband came to work in Clanton. In a month we will be moving to B'ham though.

IMHO, I think it is stupid to boycott a movie becuse one disagrees with the star.
Don't you realize that the "star" is just one person involved in the making of a movie? What about allt the "little people", co-stars, grips, electricians etc that are involved? The boycott hurts them more than the so called star.

I think his two classics will be WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. PIRATES OF missed the mark as a movie. I think of the old CHOCOLATE factory movie as still modern so why remake it? Of course I know how money and box office works but it would seem to make box office sense to have Saturday-Sunday matinees of old flicks shown on the big screen at a popular price. Who would spend bucks to see some of the great classics like LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY, WIZARD OF OZ, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, and some others from the 30s and 40s and later on the big screen again? I would rather take my children to those.

Is it any wonder the theaters are in a panic over bone dry box office receipts? Hollywood liberals did more damage to themselves than they realize. The other factor may be such things as NETFLIX's sent to your mailbox, very convenient.

No.

I wouldn't pay a nickel to watch a movie which features him or any other anti-American creep - which means I don't get to see many movies, givne the political make-up of Hollyweird.
