I am no fan of Penn's, but as far as the bullhorns go, I think he's right. In a situation where modern, current means of communications have been undermined or rendered useless, it's not such a bad idea to hang on to those means which remain reliable.

I will take issue with his whining that a means of cleaning off his boat people should have been available. That was simply not possible. I have a feeling "eeeiiiuuuwww" and "icky-yuk" were his main thoughts as he rescued people. If he came down to take it upon himself to go looking for people, he should have brought his own protective gear. If he didn't, then he has no reason to complain.

Not usually one to waste an opportunity to to be sarcastic, I don't even want to try to come up with anything glib...I just want to know why in the he## he is there? Has he been trained in search and rescue techniques? How did he come to have access to a boat and crew? How did he have photograghers standing by with their own boat? Did he displace a real rescue team? Of what valid use is Sean Penn in this situation? Will there now be a steady stream of celebrity hand wringers, finger pointers going down there and gumming up the rescue efforts by their largesse? Who let him thru the perimeter?
