Mr sassbox and I would like to donate a car of ours. He's been looking on the internet for charities in central NJ that will take a car donation. This hasn't been as easy of a search as you'd think. He thought the Red Cross sounded like a good bet. However I've heard some conservatives aren't fans of the Red Cross - I remember hearing a lot of this during Katrina. What is the cause for concern regarding the Red Cross? Would fellow freepers donate to them? Basically we don't want our donation to be used to fund something like abortion. Any input regarding the Red Cross would be very much appreciated!

Disabled American Veterans, I believe, does a car donation thing. They do so in Minnesota anyway. Cannot think of a better cause personally.

Have you checked into the Salvation Army? They are a favorite of mine but don't know if they do the car thing.

I detest the red cross commercials. The "I don't think like you, I don't eat the same food as you, etc." is really despicable.
I don't know much more about them than that. I do donate blood to them.

it doesn't appear the SA does car donation. Many charities don't. I would specifically like to know why the Red Cross would be a bad choice (or not). There are many wonderful charities out there, but few do car donation in our area, so our options are rather limited.

Lots of Orthodox Jewish charities do this, and you can be 100% assured that it won't go to promote left-wing causes.

How about selling the car and donating the proceeds to FR, Republican Party, or charity of your choice (church, salvation army, etc.)

Please think twice about donating blood with the RC.
They have been operating under a Consent Decree for many years due to their noncompliance with the FDA regulations.
I don't know how to attach a link, but google, FDA, Redcross and consent decree to read more.
Look for a not for profit blood center in your area and donate there.
And thanks for donating.

Red Cross is notorious for mismanaging money, got into some trouble for it after the 9/11 donation debacle, and they pay their administrators a PILE of money. No way would I ever donate anything to those people, when there are soooo many others who do a better job and are more deserving.
Goodwill takes cars around here.
