Good grief! Paula really said that stuff? She just went down a zillion decimal points in my eyes. That is just disgusting beyond words.

Of course Paula said it. If someone in our honest, unbiased, always in the right context media quoted her as saying it, then she did:)

I vote for Cyndi Lauper. She is a great crowd-pleaser, and would be a good ddition to the panel of judges.

I know. And I have heard back pain is excruciating. But I hope she gets it under control before it controls her. For her own sake. I didn't mean any of that hatefully. Sorry if that was how it was taken.

Definitely.

I met his mother in 1987. She was a volunteer at the hospital my son was at.

We met in the waiting room. She had a name tag on that said MANILOW. And we started talking.

She told me it was Barry's 40th birthday and she sent him 40 condoms, blown up like balloons.

She was worried about him getting aids. In those days, only homosexuals were worrying about that.

Why would a mother tell that to a perfect stranger?

I was shocked at that also.

And I'm from NY. Huge Patsy Cline fan.

I think his said his excuse was that he was a "Jewish boy from Brooklyn, what do I know?"

I'm calling BS on your Manilow story. C'mon - his mom sent him a condom tree for his 40th birthday?

Other than Kelly C, William Hung and Niel Diamond I never heard of any of the artists nor the songs.

I suspect I am better off this way.

Neil Diamond. I sure wish they could get him to do their show one week.

Can older 'American Idol' singers find success?

By Lynn Elber
AP Television Writer

LOS ANGELES — When "American Idol" contestant Taylor Hicks belted out Stevie Wonder's golden oldie "Living for the City" there was scant age difference between the singer and the 32-year-old song.

Hicks, 29, and other "Idol" finalists edging near 30 are testing the limits of just how old an aspiring pop star can be and still gain acceptance from the music industry and the public — while the TV contest reaps the rewards of showcasing older performers.

The top-rated Fox show is attracting a bigger audience than ever in its fifth edition as it offers a wider range of talent, which producers say is why they raised the audition age limit from 24 to 28 last year.

This season, the change opened the door for half of the dozen finalists: Besides Hicks, who turned 29 after making the cut, there's Mandisa, also 29; Bucky Covington, 28; Chris Daughtry, 26; Elliott Yamin, 27, and Ace Young, 25.
