Suspect arrested in JonBenet death

A man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, law enforcement officials said today. Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke with the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the man was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.

A source close to the case identified the suspect as one-time resident of Conyers, Ga., and said he was a school teacher.

The source said that authorities had been focusing on him for some time and that Patsy Ramsey had been made aware prior to her death on June 24 that his arrest was being pursued.

The girl was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the family’s home in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1996.

Law enforcement officials from Boulder were flying to Bangkok to present Thai authorities with documents in the slaying of the 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant, officials in Washington said. They asked to remain anonymous pending an announcement in Colorado.

The girl’s parents, Patsy and John Ramsey, had been under an "umbrella of suspicion" in JonBenet’s death. The Ramseys said an intruder killed their daughter. A grand jury investigation in Boulder ended with no indictments, and no arrests had been made in the case.

Patsy Ramsey died in July.

In 2003, U.S. District Judge Julie Carnes in Atlanta concluded that the evidence she reviewed suggested an intruder killed JonBenet. That opinion came with the judge’s decision to dismiss a libel and slander lawsuit against the Ramseys by a freelance journalist, who the Ramseys had named as a suspect in their daughter’s murder. The Boulder district attorney at the time said she agreed with Carnes’ declaration.

Me too. I always thought the parents were guilty.

I'm thrilled to death to see at least they had Patsy Ramsey briefed about the perp before she passed on.

If the US Feds catch him, he'll be arrested. The Feds like to arrest them at US airports enroute [just before they board the plane] to one of these locations where child sex is taking place. But they'll arrest them on foreign soil if necessary. Patriot Act gives them this authority.

There is a John Carr high school in conyers, Georgia.

There is? I live 20 minutes from there and I've never heard of a "John Carr High School".

Schools in Conyers, GA .

I never for a moment thought the parents were involved. I did from the beginning think there was a "rush to judgment" campaign and the media was guilty as heck.

Sounds like Marten van den Berg, second grade teacher, supposedly living in Bangkok.

Patsy Ramsey killed Jonbenet Ramsey by accident and yes I'm sticking to this. There are several things going on now and I'll throw them out there. If you all want to fall for this go right on ahead. And please call me vile names for a theory that 3/4 of the people involved in this case believe. After this I'll not discuss it any more but y'all can go on and throw the brickbats. I'm saving them though when absolutely nothing comes of this. I'll not be browbeat from what I believe.

First, the good Fox judge suggests that this is a ploy by John Carr to get out of that godforesaken Thailand prison to an American prison. This guy was supposedly sending nasty emails to the Ramseys which could be true. Doesn't mean he killed Jonbenet. There's been thousands of confessions to her murder over the years.

Call me names but I am absolutely certain I'm right.

Did that federal bill get signed yet authorizing the death penalty for anyone that causes the death of a child in a sex abuse crime?

"To be brought up on sex chages in Thailand is some feat."

I don't know. Just go to the "Bars" but don't BUY anything. That might get you charged with something.

Those poor parents were convicted in the press. I live in Georgia. There whole lives were just destroyed. I hope the people involved in the original investigation are brought up on charges.

You want the investigators punished because the media convicted them? That serves no purpose at all.

Fishtalk, for your own sake... I just don't think this is the right time for you to be going against the Boulder Police dept or the forum..and I am NOT calling you names.

Thier actions right after the incident brought a lot of suspicion upon themselves. If your child disappeared, would you call the police or your lawyer first.

With how bad some police investigators are, I could see calling the police first and then my lawyer.

...I am absolutely certain I'm right.

What is your background in law enforcement, forensic science, or criminal investigation?

The first investigators basically closed the case after all but convicting the parents in the press...they leaked all kinds of stuff. John Ramsey hired a private investigator. He may have come up with the lead that was given to the new investigators.

With an arrest in Thailand I am very ready to assume the guy is a pedophile predator. Steve Singular wrote a book theorizing that child porn industry played a role in Jon Benet's death. Maybe he was right.

I always suspected the parents (mostly Patsy in an accidental death/cover-up) had something to do with it, but there was always a doubt in my mind because I figured if it were an accident, Patsy would have finally broken down and fessed up after all that time. Haven't given it much thought for the past few years...now this.

The guy's only a suspect at present, remember, but if he has confessed, well...

Thailand is full of pedophiles. They even cater to the creepy pedo/tourists. This guy must have done something extra heinous to be caught and imprisoned.
