Police: Teen who hit SUV with eggs slain

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport-utility vehicle that was hit, police said.

Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.

The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.

Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.

The other teens were not hurt, police said.

You could make a bumper sticker out of that. "Whose Ass Would Jesus Bust A Cap In?"

Guess you didn't read this part or chose to ignore it and simply make a lame joke about it... I can do that too... Here is your bumper sticker ... "Turn the other cheek, give a rapist double time"...

HERE IS WHAT I SAID.... :""We are not to do this vigilante style, but give place to wrath (let the government authorities do it)... but Jesus was not one bit callous about the death penalty""

I admit what the angry driver did was wrong, in more aspects than one... first he did more than an eye for an eye, second he took authority into his own hands (beyond being allowed to do a citizen's arrest)... but I truely took offense at your attempts to downplay the teen's acts as insignificant. As I pointed out, I was nearly killed by such an act one night after an Auburn/Alabama game. I had my truck painted up and one overpass( no off ramp) had a banner hanging on it. I was pelted with an egg (sure more were thrown) and it cracked my windshild in a thousand pieces, I could not see basically from the center area especially.

It is not wrong to want justice, but yes it was wrong to shoot this kid dead over something that did not cause the death of the car occupants. If the kid did cause the death of someone in that car, yes I firmly believe he deserved the death penality. Maybe he was only 14, but killing a baby in a car seat or an adult makes no difference either. He knew right from wrong and no amount of age arguement will change that.

Just what I was thinking - the egg-thrower dissed someone's spinners. Would I be racist if I asked 'Was the SUV an Escalade, or a Navigator'?

Would I be considered a bigot if I asked if the SUV had "spinners" and other such "bling"?

Just hypothesizing here, but it does seem like the driver was not a fine upstanding member of society, if you know what I mean. Where I work, we have a REAL problem with these drug dealer goons coming down from Columbus - drive by shootings, etc. I hope they catch who did it & he gets the proper punishment.

Still though, I would never have done something like those boys did when I was younger, (A) because my parents made a point to teach me early on not to trespass or vandalise other people's property and (B) because my parents would not have let me run around with other kids that did.

It still boils down to parents making sure their kids behave themselves. In the end, it was the kid's actions that prompted what happened to him and ultimately, caused the reaction that ended his life. Sad and tragic no matter how you look at it. However, I believe a 14 year old is old enough to know right from wrong - sounds like this kid was heading in the wrong direction and probably would have been a larger problem on society sometime in the future when he became an adult.

In California to throw any object at a moving vehicle is a felony.

Then make throwing things at SUVs a hate crime
to level the playing field.

Obviously the one pelting eggs at moving cars.

I was thinking about a girl who, at age 16, had friends in her car that were also only 16. In CA you can't have only 16 yr olds in the car during your first 6 months with your license. I think for vandalism and other more serious crimes they should have some sort of probation and further consequences if caught doing another destructive act.

I was walking one night, facing traffic, and a car coming up behind pulled over to my side and lobbed and egg at me. It hit me right at the base of the scull and the spine.

As the white sparkly lights lit off behind my eyes and I went down to my knees I could barely see the tail lights going around the corner.

I'm sure the little darlings got a chuckle out of the nights fun.

the egg thrower and the shooter had a lot in common.

The actions of both are the result of the state of morality in society. Contrast with similar situations in Baghdad. If no contrast, then compare.

I would have liked to have realized that when my car was hit twice by thrown/shot objects. Those kids should have been in serious trouble but the Sheriff's Dept took the attitude that 'you know, kids will be kids'. Hopefully with a new Department head taking over now,law enforcement out here will step up to the plate and actually pay attention to citizen's complaints.

Perhaps they can find the driver of the SUV and make a plea bargain: reduced sentence in return for testimony against the rogue vehicle.

Every reference you use is speaking of adult children. No wonder people get the idea that Christians are nut logs when a character like you seeks to use the bible as support for the murder of a 14 year old. I think Islam is where you will find welcoming arms.

Please show the age limitor on the passages I gave. Thank you.

A semi tread coming off and hitting my hood, no gun play.
Dodging a 1,200 pound round bale of hay that left a hay trailer, again, no gun play.
Taking to the median at 80 miles an hour because a semi driver became overly focused on mering traffic. Just, damn, no gun play. I told the driver not to worry when he stopped to check on my welfare. Things happen.
Don't travel Highway 71 from K.C. to Fayetteville. I think you are too sensative for the journey. On that trip if you hop out with a gun you are going to encounter lots of people with guns, not a 14 kid with a carton of eggs.
The best 14 year old is a dip sh*& about half of the time. If you say you weren't, you're lying.

no sense of the potential consequences of their actions, and no sense of personal responsibility.

Sounds like you're describing the average teenager. This is one reason why they're not allowed to vote or sign contracts.

I think too many people are trying to relate what happened to a "small town in Kansas". Columbus is a sewer full of gang-bangers!

If the headline had said it was Detroit, Watts, Harlem, Compton..... they would know that throwing anything at anyone, is begging someone to shoot you!

Its too bad that it happened, but even at 14 ( unless retarded), in that area its what you should expect the outcome to be.

Stupidity is not a crime, but it frequently carries a capital sentence that is served without appeal.
