The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It wasn't till I looked back through this thread to find a header picture that I realized how long the prior one had run! It was back to June, long before Becky's trip up here for saddle moot. I got distracted for quite a while reading those posts from when she was here (starts here with the arrival of Mia)

So to inspire more saddle mooting this year, here's Becky, in Washington, in my back forty, on my horse! :~)

We sure are chatty ladies, aren't we?
Becky, that story about the rooster was a riot. I had something similar happen. My husband and son were bike riding on some trails (this is before we moved to our current place) and picked up this skinny bird dog. Felt sorry for it so they brought it home. I hated that dog, it was no wonder someone dumped it off. It chewed up my water hoses, tack, chased the horses, etc. One day it went to my neighbors and maimed a few chickens. The neighbors were understandably livid, we were embarrassed, we didn't like the stupid dog anyway and told them we were going to kill it or take it to the pound, and we would have. They freaked out, no don't kill it, it didn't actually kill any chickens, blah blah blah. We did take it to the pound, they were full up and said they would take the dog but were going to kill it that day. We took the ignert-head dog back home and paid one of my husband's hunter friends to take it.

Hair, I love your pictures! I especially love the ones that you take from on top of Bay .. with his ears showing. I actually thought of you yesterday when I was cooling Bill out after our ride, and the view was a dirt road and his ears .. I kinda smiled and thought "this looks like one of Hair's pics".. Thanks for your wonderful photo 'eye' and all the pics that help us be a part of your life..

Oh, wow....thanks for the link. I hadn't looked at it once I got all the pictures I wanted from it....i started at the beginning and have been reading thru the posts. You know I never did read all those posts you guys posted while i was in the air coming:)...That was cool.

I'm going to try priniting hard copies of that weeks posts...you know, I brought that journal to write in, and never did once I got there...I realized that on my way home, and really kicked myself. But these posts are just as good. If I can print them up, it will make a nice trip journal to put with my other trip journals:)

'Mornin Hair! Thanks for the ping to the new thread. I'm finally back at work and after being off for so long, I can tell it's gonna be a long week, even though it's technically a short one.

My mom's been in poor health and I've been spending a good bit of time over there and between that and the holidays, haven't been able to do very much horsey stuff since Thanksgiving, but that's fixing to change if at all possible. The weather around here's been pretty nice, temperature-wise, and unless something unforseen happend, we've got a ride planned for this weekend. I sure do look forward to it, but with all those young horses and so little riding, I'm sure it'll prove to be an "interesting" experience. Hopefully we won't kill each other!

Reading thru all those old posts when I was in Wa, I had to laugh about the ones, since several people commented about my long hair....I cut it all off about 2 wks ago. I was even longer, and I just couldn't do anything with it, and was tired of trying.

I'm sorry about your mother.

I'm going to go ride here in just a bit. It seems along time since I have too, so I'm wondering how Harley will be:). I've been reading on the horse forum all the articales people are posting about how thier horses are acting up because of the cool temps and haven't been rode in awhile:)....makes you wonder about your own.

Sorry your mom's been ill. We've noticed your absence! I do hope she's better, and you get to go on your ride this weekend. You know the rules... don't forget the camera :~)

Maybe play some games with them first :~)

Bay's just so beyond broke I never worry about him acting up. He might be fresh, but never unruly. I'd trailer him somewhere and get on him today and go. I've always made sure Cyn was lunged a few days and ridden here at home at least once after a winter off, but she's never been any trouble either. That's good!

Hey - forgot to mention, I think, that Tiff got on Tell, the black horse last weekend. Took him to a stable and rode him in the arena there. She said he was a lot to handle and a little jumpy, but she handled him fine. She said when she was done she tied him in a corner while she worked the others and he was good for that.

Wasn't that fun to read through? I read through the whole thing too. I'd forgotten some of the details like Homer running off! Jeepers, I'm glad he came back.

And it was fun to read your posts about things that are familiar to me.

Tennessee was always good about being even tempered, even after a long layoff. He's a lot like Bay, in that he might be pawing the ground and dancing, but he wasn't gonna buck my butt off, even when he was a youngster. Now Bob's a different story. He's all piss and vinegar and will probably have a hump in his back for the first 30 minutes or so. Hope was the same way the last time I rode her, but I never lunge either one of them beforehand so I guess it's my own fault if they get the better of me one day. You'd think I'd wise up after a while, but so far nobody's been able to dish out anything that I couldn't take, so I guess I haven't been all that motivated to change my habits. My day's comming I'm sure, but hopefully they'll grow out of it before then. Old habits die hard.

That was a fun part of the thread to read. Just think of all the stuff that we'll have to write about and post pictures of if we all get together his fall!

But if we're all there, who will we post it too?

Ourselves, I guess, so we can read it again later!

LOL! Yeah, I thought about that too. It WILL look kinda funny, but I imagine that there'll be quite a few folks that won't be able to make it, and/or spouses that can't come, so we can post to them. It'll be a blast!

Yeah, it is going to be a blast, I'm really looking forward to it:).

I didn't ride today, I'm such a slug...at least till I get going. Try again tomorrow afternoon. I sort of kind of have a good excuse. I went out to get ready and the Animal Control guy stopped by...imagine that...we had a nice chat, and he has no intentions of picking up my dogs, but every one at the city is just trying to get Beth to shut up. It's pretty much as I thought, there is strong evidence her kid is aggravating the dog, and the dogs are not really a danger, altho it wouldn't take much to him be aggressive, he is a trained guard dog. They got him after their house was broke into last year. Anyway, by the time we got thru with our chat, it was too late, as I have an errand to run in town, so I need to be going.

Becky
