Landry was definitely The Man. But I love Bum, Wade's dad, in a totally different way (the exact opposite personality).

What, and Wade Phillips is a great candidate? The guy's the defensive version of Turner, except Turner's playbook is better. And Turner, despite sucking as a head coach, still had the guts to tell Jerry Jones to not dictate his coaching staff to him. Phillips didn't, therefore Phillips gets hired.

Wade Phillips is not the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones is. That makes two jobs, head coach and owner, that Jerry Jones sucks at.

Wade Phillips is a career interim head coach. He's keeping the seat warm for next year. I see Sith Apprentice Jerry going after Cowher in 2008.

Not that Cowher would take the job... Talk about culture shock - from the Rooneys to the Joneses.

Man, the Cowboy haters have come out of the woodwork today, it's like turning the light on and watching the roaches scatter!

Now for my two cents; This is a good hire for two reasons, first reason being the Cowboys defense was terrible last season. They couldn't get to the QB, and they couldn't defend the deep ball. The Cowboys lost 3 games due to the defense collapsing, New Orleans, Washington, and Detriot. Granted the Tuna's play calling was just as bad the entire season, but this defense was supposed to be the second comming of the old "Doomsday" defense. The second reason is Phillips is a damn good 3-4 guy, and the Cowboys have a strong 3-4 foundation(one of the few good things from the Tuna era)that he can turn into the same type of dominating unit he had in San Diego.

So hate all you want boys, I am gonna sit back, relax, and watch my Cowboys win more Super Bowls!!!!

A second middle-finger from Cowher to Jones will be when Cowher entertains a huge deal from Dan Snyder, which will only grow bigger when the Panthers, who are just down the road from Cowher's new house, fire John Fox.

What a joke....he couldn't do anything with the Broncos, he couldn't do anything with any other team so what makes any one think he could do anything with the loosing cowboys????

Guess you could say 'birds of a feather' huh?

Wade Phillips is now going to distribute steroids to the Cowboys' D?

"Wade Phillips is now going to distribute steroids to the Cowboys' D?"

Yeah, Like Wade was taking weekend trips to Tijuana, buying up tons of steriods and handing them out in the training room. Get a grip dude. The hate will just eat you up from the inside out.

Sorry, buddy, but I don't hate the Cowboys. In fact, I don't care about them beyond finding humor in how the team keeps spinning its wheels each year. Every year they do just enough to make people think they're going to be big next year, and they do nothing. (And, no, I'm not a fan of a team in your division.)

The point is, you claimed it was Wade Phillips who made the Chargers' defense "dominant" this year. Wade Phillips did no such thing. The magic scrotum-shrinking drugs did that, and now Shawne Merriman can't take the things again because he's under scrutiny. Expect him to suck next year, and no, it won't be because Wade Phillips has left.

You're deluding yourself if you think Jones hired Phillips to make the team better. Jones hired Phillips because Phillips won't question True Head Coach Jones' decisions. Like, say, hiring Jason Garrett. Or trying to hire Ron Rivera.

I want Landry back. He had class.

And his expression hasn't changed in years.

As a Dallas fan, I'm ok with the Phillips hire.

Parcells' selfish stonewalling left paltry choices for a new head coach in the upcoming year. Phillips was the best choice out there IMHO, given the sitation Dallas is in. They have an established roster that just needs to come together and take it to the next level with a few tweaks. Especially on defense, which is where Phillips has some good cred and experience.

This hire is trying to make the best of a shaky situation. It's easy for armchair NFL owners to rag on a head coach, I do it too. Wade did pretty good with a medicore Buffalo team. If the least he can do is to get the Dallas defense playing well together and becoming a force, he will have done a good job.

He did pretty well with the offense in San Diego.

It's somewhat ironic.

All these people who pretend to show reverence for Tom Landry, never had a kind word for him or liked him when he was alive coaching the Cowboys.

Landry almost cost Dallas the championship in 1971-1972 because he would not make a decision whether to start Craig Morton or Roger Staubach. The members of the defense voted that Leeroy Jordan go to Landry to tell him he had to make up his mind.

I am stunned that after all of the rude things the Dallas haters said about, he's some how a role model.

What you call "mediocrity" is what the NFC calls "playoff calibar".

It is ironic that the Cowboys haven't played a Superbowl since Jerry got mad and fired Barry Switzer, who just happened to win 2 Superbowls for the Cowboys.

It may be unfair but the last mental image I have of Tom Landry is of him shouting "NO, DANNY, NO!" as Dexter Manley is pounding Danny White into the turf at RFK Stadium.

I never said anything bad about him. He invented the 4-3 defense, and acted with class and style. Was he the perfect coach? No. Has anybody ever been the perfect coach? No. Was Landry a respectable humanbeing an imperfect coach? Yes. Does that make his legacy too good for the modern era of the Dallas Cowboys? Hell yes.

Total BS, but BS is typical from the average Cowgirl fan. Win a game and they are Super Bowl bound, lose on a fluke play and the world has ended and the coach is a baby killer who must be fired. Randy Galloway is lame these days, but he hits the nail on the head when he calls it "Overreaction Monday" during the NFL season.
