Alert . . . Alert... Global Warming Alert
Vanity

Posted on 02/14/2007 3:24:08 PM PST by Papatex

From: Internation Bureau of Weather and Enviroment Dated: 14/02/07 (1800)

Be advised that the heat generated by the human body when shoveling show contributes to Global Warming.

If you must shovel, an individual must wrap him/her self in sufficient clothing to prevent heat transfer to the atmosphere.

If not, you must bear the guilt for all man-made global warning.

The heat police will be watching, so button up.

Even if the globe is warming, what makes you believe that your area won't get even colder? Global warming refers to an average...an average in a distribution that is likely to exhibit greater variance toward extremes, too.

This is exactly why I put a plow on my 3/4 ton truck this winter.

We should write a new book called "Shoveling, Snow In The Balance"

The evidence shows otherwise. Iast time I shoveled snow, a couple weeks ago, it was -5 when I started and -10 when I finished three hours later.

Nice try. Did that get you out of shoveling?

Theres a lot of nasty global warming around here. Haven't been able to get to work for two days. Are you in Indy? The ice, mixed with the snow is really a mess. We need an ax to cut through it. Al Gore can come on over and help out. I'll give his wretched a** a snow shovel! LOL

2 counties up from ya.

flat...flat...flat w/o much to slow the wind.

Too dark now to venture out to sightsee.

just gotta resist baking this chocolate cake that has been sitting in its box beside my monitor all day. That's where my glasses were 8 hours ago when I looked to see what I need.

I shoveled all day...I deserve it....right?

RIGHT???

Global warming refers to an average...an average in a distribution that is likely to exhibit greater variance toward extremes, too.

Please state sources for that greater "variance" claim. Is it:

Man caused
El Niño/La Niña
Milankovitch cycles
Variations in any of the Hadley/Ferrel/Polar cells
Sun spot activity like the Maunder Minimum
Maybe another Mount Tambora.

BTW, it's global average temperature.

Global warming is what the sun does to the earth. Stand in front of a fire and you have mammal warming.
The extremes should be taken with a grain of salt. The records aren't as reliable before 1850, but they still pale in comparison to today's equipment. 1850 had 1.2 billion people. Less dispersion and less equipment.
Thermometers were manual back then and required someone to monitor it. Now we can do that remotely and mark the lowest temperature. There are also far more scientific minded people to record data.

FYI the temperature increase in the last Century (or Millennium) is an ESTIMATE:

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes:

"The best estimate of global surface temperature change is a 0.6 °C increase since the late 19th century with a 95% confidence interval of 0.4 to 0.8 °C"

Yes, an estimate with a cited confidence interval. I prefer the term "climate change," as it's unclear exactly how the changes are playing out. However, modeling has been showing for at least 15 years that the result is more extremes...and guess what...that's what we see.

The cause of the increased variance is likely a combination of factors, and I don't think we've established what contribution--if any--is from our activities. But the effects are there regardless of the cause/forcing/feedback mechanisms.

Heck, it could be the cleaning of particulate emissions from the air!
