A grandfather who went on a massive spending spree when doctors told him he would die is taking legal action against the NHS after learning he had been misdiagnosed. John Brandrick, from Newquay, Cornwall, was told he had pancreatic cancer two years ago after scans revealed a 7cm tumour.
The 62-year-old said he was told by doctors at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske that he only had a short time left to live.
So he quit his job and stopped paying his mortgage, instead splashing out on a lavish lifestyle of hotels, restaurants and holidays.
Then the hospital told him that he was actually suffering from non-fatal pancreatitis.
Mr Brandrick said that in the year he thought he was dying he spent everything and now he faces losing his house.

Maybe they should just offer to kill him...
Ok, I’m willing to listen to ideas about how this guy ticked-off the Man upstairs . . . .
Selfish indulgence reaps its own reward. I suppose now he’ll expect more charitable folk to contribute to him.
I won’t be suprised to read next week that this einstien got so despondent that he grabbed a hammer and beat himself to death over it all.
Gray Davis? Is that you???
The fact that this guy somehow feels cheated really burns me.
“...and, so, they shot him - 8, 9, 10 times, I dunno, I lost track...”
This dude should be ashamed of himself. He should be happy he is not dying.
I have had two bouts of pancreatitis, and I want to know is: how did he feel well enough to do any lavish living?
Now that I think about it . . . he didn’t appear to have a problem with sticking it to his bank over the mortgage, so why should I feel sorry he’s losing his house?
This is really a dad story. Sad because that guy gave in to his selfishness and, now, wants others to pay for it. Instead of being grateful that he has a new lease on life, he wants to play the victim card and make us all feel sorry for his selfish losses. While I am glad he has that new lease on life, I think he ought to be told that his claim is bogus, and that he is disgracing himself by his actions.
LOL
LOL again!
Selfish idiot.
See, only death and taxes — mortgages and other debts are just not on the list. Nice try though.
