Yes, she does flood, but with that creek running through the property, she needs to just expect that.

Not sure if we’ll need to retreat to the storm trailer or not. The high wind warnings are for the coast... we’ve got some distance and a few hills between here and there, and we sometimes don’t get it when they do.

We’ll let you know though, with pictures of course, when and if we do need to use it. Part of me is actually looking forward to that, in a sick way. Of course, now that we have the trailer and the generator, we’re guaranteed at least one winter where there are no storms or power outages at all. :)

Hi guys - I’m sorry, I have been AWOL here for quite awhile. Everything is fine with Bob and I and the horses, although no more have been sold as yet. Winter’s here, cold and gloomy (have I mentioned I hate winter?)

Our next door neighbor was diagnosed with cancer a month ago. It was quite extensive then, kidney and lungs, now the bones and liver are involved also. He doesn’t have family here although we were finally able to get his two daughters up from California. He’s been in the VA for almost a week and a half now. It’s been a difficult time, most difficult I guess because no amount of wanting to will fix anything. Thankfully, he has a lot of friends so there is someone there daily visiting with him.

Have Faith, I’m so sorry about your dog, that’s a real bitch to deal with. The new one will eventually earn it’s own place in your heart.

MissTargets, how did your friend’s filly do at the World? I’ve not even looked to see what happened and who was competing there this year.

Hair, I promise I’ll get myself over to Baywind again soon, hopefully to contribute something worthwhile to all your effort there. You have done such an outstanding job :)

I think you have mentioned before that you don’t like winter :)

Very sorry to hear about your friend. :(

I’m sorry to hear about your neighbor. It’s always hard to be sick with no family around so I’m glad his friends have become his surrogate family. That’s so good of y’all to do that for him. You’ve had a lot to deal with this year with Lorie’s death and now this. Hang in there, and keep in touch.

I MISSED you! Sorry to hear why. You really have had a rough time lately with close friends. I know what you mean about feeling helpless. It’s the same when I have a patient I can’t fix, especially if I’ve been seeing them a long time.

Winter is rearing it’s ugly head here now, as well. Sat’s. high is 44 and wind chill in 20’s. I’m not ready for that yet.

I love your post on BW about your horse. He’s beautiful.

Here's some pics from our ride this past Saturday at the Laurel Hill Wildlife Management Area in TN. My regular camera's battery is toast so these were taken with my backup and the color's a little weird, but they're better than nothing...

The first part of the trail was pretty hilly, following the sides of ridgelines above several creeks. There were quite a few places where I was thinking, "Man, I hope I don't go rolling down that hill!"

Are there any bugs there? I hate bugs.

Not too many this time of year. We'd heard that the yellow jackets were bad there earlier in the Fall so we purposfully waited until after the first frost, hoping to avoid them. Bugs I can tolerate, I HATE yellow jackets!

Frog, very nice ride pictures. Tenn is such a beautiful State, with so many great places to ride. Alison has rode her new horse. She even loped him, which was exciting to her.

Duchess, sorry to your about your friend and neighbor. So sad. My friend, Judy's filly won a seventh and eighth under two of the judges. Amy and I watched online and the class was large with 25 or so. They were a little disappointed and I really thought she would have done better.

The kids and I have been really busy here at the house, with some major projects. Since I had the foundation done, the basement has stayed dry and we put down carpet, painted the drywall, moved the entertainment center down there and will move the TV from up stairs, when I get my new one next week. It really looks nice and will be even better when the drop ceiling is put on. A great place for entertaining and game nights.

We also tore up the carpet and hall in the living room and put down laminate flooring. With all these cats and dogs in this house, the carpet was pretty nasty. It had been down for over 20 years, so it was long over due.

With all this remodeling going on and trips to Home Depot, I have not had much time to do any surfing. There are a few other things I would like to get done, in these long winter months.

There has been a little snow, but it doesnt stay long. Temps have not been too bad, yet!

Sounds like terrific project progress!

We have a few winterizing things we’re hoping to get done this weekend.

Wow, the basement remodeling sounds great! It’ll be nice for you to have a place to entertain where people can have room to spread out and not be on top of each other. You’ll have to show us pics when it’s done.

My wife is looking for a place on a lake. I showed her the pics and she has added Tennessee to her list of possibilities.

That particular lake is surrounded by Wildlife Management Area, so there is no development, but there are a bunch of other lakes in TN that are. There's Tims Ford Lake, near Fayetteville, Percy Priest Lake near Nashville, Douglas Lake and Norris Lake, near Knoxville, Fontana Lake on the TN/NC border, to name a few. You might also want to look into Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama. They've been developing some really nice homes in that area in recent years. If you Google Lewis Smith Lake AL you'll see all kinds of listings.

I have a place on Smith Lake in Winston Co. I would sell it because my husband doesn’t like water and we are more into horses right not.
It is not fancy or new, but functional and pretty private. It is on the water in a deep slough with a boat ramp and pavillion for the neighborhood use. It has a boat dock and a 50 foot ramp on the water.
I am partial, but I think it is the prettiest lake and cleanest water. It’s over 300 feet deep in some places.

Great that Alison is enjoying her new horse. She will be rearing (not literally) to go by show season.
I’d like to see a new picture of it.

Wow, it has been so slow here, I hadn’t even checked here in a while, and now look at all the posts:)

Frog it looks like you are having a pretty fall. Things just went from green to brown here, not much color. I guess we got too much rain.

The morning glories were all killed off about 2 weeks ago.

Hair I noticed that they had dropped lots of seeds on the sidewalk, so one day I picked some up to send to you, but I couldn’t find your address. I still have them if you want them for next year.

Duchess sorry about your friend.

MT, you have been busy. One of these days I’ll get back to working on the house so I can get it sold sometime:)....LOL, I’ve stopped setting deadlines.

Anyway, great to hear from everyone.

Good to hear from you! I didn't think I'd seen you over at Baywind either so I was wondering what you'd been up to.

We had a good ride this past weekend too. I posted a thread about it on Baywind, but I'll repost it here too...

HaveFaith and I met up with some other trail buddies yesterday at KC's Horse Camp, near Double Springs, AL. The weather was much nicer than on Saturday, so that's why we waited.

I rode my gelding, Bob, and HaveFaith rode her 2yr old filly named Sassy. This was Sassy's longest and possibly most challenging trail ride to date, but she did really well. Nothing seems to phase her. We went through creeks, deep mud, slid down muddy hills and across downed trees and she just went right along like she'd done it all her life.

We had another newbie with us too, in the form of a 13yr old girl who is the daughter of my trail buddy's friend. This was her first "real" trail ride and she did outstanding. All I can say is the girl must have a velcro butt! But I do have to give a lot of the credit to the horse she was riding. Blade is really good at taking care of his riders. I raised him, but he's spent the last 3 years with my friend and she's added the polish to his diamond-in-the-rough.

We had a great ride so I thought I'd share a few pics, for those of you whose riding season is over...

Part of the gang heading out...

Our first-time trail rider and her trusty mount Blade...

HaveFaith and 2yr old Sassy...

A lot of the trails here follow creek beds at the base of bluffs. It's really nice in the heat of the Summer, but very pretty no matter the season...

HaveFaith & Sassy digging their way up the creek bank...

Then HaveFaith posted this...

This is the only good one I got before my battery died. We rode up to an old road bed in the woods and were just standing talking before resuming the ride. I turned around on Sassy to look at the others and this big doe was just standing in the road looking at us. She wasn't 30 yards away. Then she started walking towards us. We were talking, horses moving, taking pics, and one even walked towards her to get a better pic. Then someone said there were 2 of them. Behind the trees on the right, there was a BIG wall-hanger of at least 8 points. He even walked towards us half step at a time. After several minutes the doe just ambled off up the slope to the right and he followed her at a slow walk, big rack just shining! It was a beautiful sight and even better that they didn't seem afraid and flee as soon as we saw them.

I thought that one turned out pretty good! I didn't figure she'd show up in the picture at all because she was blending into the background so well in real life.
