FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well if you're taking her in for a spay they should be able to tell if she's recently been pregnant, or certainly if she is. Heh. I've assisted on spays where both situations occured.

Yes, things are especially rough right now. I've been getting to the barn when I can, but even that has gone onto the back burner, and it really bites.

We have a heat wave going on, and it was so hot upstairs yesterday that our server died. Whoops. I have to go out today and replace it with a router, which is easier for a home network anyway.

In other news, I got a new camera and this weekend I got a chance to play with it for the first time. Here are some of the results.

For some reason, this one looks a little faded and grainy. Hmm..

Anyway, they aren't horse related, but I thought that they were pretty.

Yeah, I enjoyed it too, and I was SUPER impressed with Sassy. If you didn't know better you would have never guessed that she had only been out less than a handful of times. She has such a calm temperament, and she just took all the trail obstacles in stride, especially the mud, like she'd been through it a thousand times. She's a BIG ol' girl too for just a 2yr old. I'll bet she tops out at 16h minimum by the time she's 5. I think you've got a keeper there. Here's a pic I took of her getting chummy with Blade...

And here's the only other picture I took on the ride. The Old Farts were all lined up there in a row and I just had to snap their picture...

Well it’s good to hear from you, even if the news isn’t so good. Try to take care of yourself and don’t let them wear you down. Just get out of there as soon as you find a good opportunity, but until then just try to leave work issues at work. Hang in there! We’re pulling for you.

Oooooo, those flowers are GORGEOUS! What kind are they? They kind of remind me of a Clematis, but I’ve never seen one with that big frilly poof in the middle.

Honey went along with a hand clipper and clipped the scotch broom back, I followed with my trusty push mower chopping my way through the rest of it! :~)

Nice pics of your ride, that filly of yours is beautiful HaveFaith, and it’s always nice to see Blade :~)

I would get out too. People don’t need that kind of stress.

Those do look like DOUBLE Climatis. Never seen any like that either. Beautiful.
Hope life starts treating you better soon. I don’t know why people at jobs just can’t do theirs and leave everyone else alone.

Those are Clematis. I’m glad that you enjoy them. I love photography- it’s something that I dropped for a while but have rediscovered. I love sharing the pictures that I take.

Hey all - not caught up here at all, if I've missed something let me know! I'm knee deep in cats and cat issues. Too scattered and tired to repost everything here... it's all here, starting on page 6. RE: Feral kittens - update second momma caught!

Well, looks like the girls got out on parole. I’m sure they were glad to get out of there. And don’t worry about them, they’ll be fine. They’ll probably be back around to their old haunts by the afternoon. I’ve always let my barn cats out the next day after they were spayed. They’re a whole lot happier and less stressed that way. You done good taking care of them like you did. It’s a whole lot more than most people would have done.

Yeah - I feel good about it. I’ll be watching for them, maybe give them some special treats out in the barn for awhile, with no cage in sight, so they can return to some normalcy. I’m going to try to keep the dogs and cats in as much as possible today so they can explore around and get their bearings.

Oh - And I have a new farrier! One of them called back. Appointment’s not till July, but I liked the guy. Glad I started calling early, that was his first opening. Bay will only be a week or so overdue at most then.

And in other news, we had a little excitement at our house on Sunday morning.

I had gotten up early to water the plants and such before it got too hot, but I remembered that I hadn't unloaded my tack out of the trailer from Saturday's ride so I went around back, got the strap goods, hosed them off and hung them up to dry, then picked up my black felt saddle sheet and carried it around to the front. It was pretty smelly and I didn't want to take it in the house to wash right then so I just dropped it outside the front door and went on with my watering. While I was doing that, my husband opened the door for the cats to go out, but they got freaked out by that black blanket laying there and didn't want to go past it. He thought that was kinda strange, but just shooed them on out anyways, but when they went past it, they just shot past it like it was going to get them or something.

So about that time I got done with my watering and decided to go on in the house and take that blanket with me to throw in the washer, but when I picked it up there was this big brownish blackish thing underneath it and it took me a second or two to realize that it was a big ol’ snake coiled up under there. I have no idea where he came from, because he wasn't there when I put the blanket down less than 30 minutes before. But he kinda startled me, so I scream “Oh SH!T” and jumped back and my husband comes running to the door and I'm pointing and hollering “Snake!” and he's hollering “Get the hoe” through the door.

But by this time I'd gotten over the initial shock of seeing him and had time to get my wits about me so I gave him a closer look. I could see that he wasn't a poisonous snake, judging by the shape of his head and eyes, and I'm not one to just kill a snake because he's a snake, so I just go get a garden rake and try to scoop him up with that to take him back to the woods. But my husband hates snakes and he's screaming “Kill the d@mned snake!” and I'm yelling “No!” and he's yelling “Don't make me have to come out there and give you a cussin’. That snake’ll be back before you get back to the house!”. And the snake keeps crawling off the rake every few feet, and he's like 4 feet long, so I finally just grab him by the tail and carry him the rest of the way and fling him into the woods, which nearly causes my husband to have a stroke. So needless to say, I didn't go back in the house for a while until he'd had a chance to calm down. I mean, heck, it was just a water snake. I thought it was funny after it was all said and done, and definitely added a little excitement to our Sunday morning, but my hubby obviously didn't think so. I have a feeling that if he sees that snake again that there's going to be hell to pay. ;o)

Laughing out loud here! What a frenzy of activity! I think it would have caused the same thing here, but I don't know which of us would be shouting what!!! :~) What do you think hon? Which side are you on? ;~)
