This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

If Lee hadn’t been there I would’ve put him in the shed. We’ve got mice in there like crazy. You know I was telling you about finding them in buckets in there all the time. I have a feeling if ol’ Harvey the snake lived in there that there wouldn’t be any mice.
Heh... you’re probably right! I think they’d be better than a cat for getting in tight spaces.
Is this really him or just a picture of one of his relatives? Looks like a good ole rat snake. My hubby hates snakes too, he probably woulda blown it away with his service pistol. Ther are "of the devil" LOL
Just a pic of one one of his relatives. According to the pic he was a Northern Water Snake. Rat snakes are blacker.
Well, he is misplaced then does he not know this is not the north? LOL Personally I have never, nor hopefully will I ever, get close enough to tell the difference! Looks like a rattler with out the rattle to me. Snakes are snakes.
Sounds like how my husband used to react. He was terrified of snakes for most of his life.
I love the pictures. You have a great talent there. Praying you life gets much better soon.

I heard an interesting story yesterday from one of my neighbors, Beth. Her horse colicked Sun. She came home saw the horses and everything was fine, 20 minutes later she went out and one of them was down thrashing around. At first she thought it was the flies bothering the horse, then her and her husband thought the horse may be having seizures. They got hold of a vet and took the horse in, it was not only colic but a twisted gut.
The vet sedated the horse, to give them time to go over their options. PUt the horse down, surgery, or take the horse home on pain meds and see what happens. The vet said the chances of survival looked very slim.
They brought the horse home. Kept her medicated all thru the night, and also kept her moving, not just walking but running. The vet did not advise this a friend of theirs told them to do this.
The horse survived! I’ve never heard of a horse surviving a twisted gut, I thought that was automatically a death sentence. Surgery being a 50/50 chance.
Now that is going to be fun. How do we get pictures of you doing the tango :) Hope you do enjoy it.

Very interesting. Enough jostling for it to jostle loose, I guess. I guess there was a fifty fifty change it would twist worse, or untwist. Good for her and the horse.
Let us know how the horse does if you hear okay? I’ve always thought like you, that the twisted gut was a death sentence. Did they explain how the running worked? Did it make the gut untwist? I guess it must have.
How goes things with you?
I’m assuming that since the horse is not colicky anymore the gut did untwist. I can only guess that all the shaking and jarring from the running did it.
My thoughts about it was: I’d find it hard to make a horse who would have been at that level of pain work that hard, altho I guess if she was medicated enough she wasn’t feeling the pain. And two, I’d wonder, and only time will tell, if she isn’t going to be prone to this now.
Things are going for me as well as can be expected I guess. One day at a time.
Wow, that sounds like a blast! I’d love to be able to do something like that. Once you learn it, you’ve GOT to get somebody to video you doing it so we can see it. I’m glad you’re getting out and doing something fun.
I had a good thing happen today....I rented out the doctor’s office in my building:) To a flower shop, that has been in business in Bixby since 1965. So it’s a good solid business, the building they are presently in is going to be tore down to widen the road. This is the second time in about 2 years this has happened to them. They are looking for some place to stay long term. So they are very good prospect at being long term.
I never expected that place to rent without major remodeling being done, so this is a big relief.

Wow that IS good news! Major good news. And they may paint and such to brighten it up if they stay there. That would be easy enough!
