FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Are the inside office walls structural walls? or could they open it up in the back?

Mmm... I think so. ;-) Heh. I’m having a hard time finding a place to go dancing though. It’s mostly clubs that I’m finding. Tough!

What am I, Captain Obvious? ;~)

You could Tango at nicer clubs, people would enjoy seeing it! But if you really want Ballroom Dance music, consider Elks or Eagle's clubs. Course, you might be the only ones there under 70.

You? Naaaah! :-) I honestly don't know if he is single, I haven't asked him. I will admit that it would be nice to finally find someone. There are places to ballroom dance, but they don't offer it on Saturdays, just Sundays. Bummer. I have no idea how to tango- he's going to teach me. Even if we have to find an empty parking lot somewhere, I'm going to learn, darnit! :-)

And have fun doing it! I’d think he’s fairly unattached if he’s offering gals dancing lessons on a Saturday night. :~)

Hey wait, you have a very VERY good point. I tend to be fairly oblivious to these things.

That’s fantastic. A flower shop will be cool. Maybe as part of their rent they can give you fresh flowers once a week or so :)

I told my husband about the twisted gut. He said he sure would like to hear follow-ups on the horse. He’s never heard of that, however, he had never heard of locking up foals with crooked legs either and he admits that worked. And has since advised other people to do the same :)

I guess just assuming that he is single isn’t a good idea, huh? I’m the trusting sort but nowdays you never know.

I seriously hope this is the something good coming into your life :)

I’m curious how they get a diagnosis of twisted gut without opening the horse up? Isn’t it somewhat of a guess?

It seems like they would have to do some sort of ultrasound or xrays or something. There would have to be something other than a guess.

From what Beth told me, when the vet did a rectal exam, she could not reach in as far as normal.

I’ve always been under the impression that a vet can tell a twisted gut from listening to the gut. In fact I was with a friend at the time a vet examined her horse and diagnosed a twisted gut. She had the horse put down.

I have to admit, this whole thing makes me tiny skeptical of the diagnoses. Personally, I’m surprised that the vets gave them the option of coming home at all, even with meds. I mean, I know a vet couldn’t stop them if they did it on their own, but that was an option the vet gave.

LOL...I prefer cold hard cash:). Don't get me wrong I like flowers, and it will be nice to have a flower business in the building. It will be nice for our downtown business section also. Downtown Bixby has been dead for so long, so many empty buildings, we desperately need retail businesses down there. Now with this addition, all the businesses that are down there are all right here together, with my building being the first you come too. One of the reasons they liked the location so well.

That’s what I would be curious about, what they see or hear that tells them. We see a diagnosis all the time of twisted gut, especially on fatal cases, but there’s not always a necropsy, so I wonder how they really know? I don’t think I’ve ever asked.

I’m surprised too, that coming home was an option.

Hey that’s great about the flower shop moving into your building. They should be a nice quiet tennant that shouldn’t give you any trouble. I’m sure the added income will be a big help and give you a little more peace of mind too.

LOL - I wouldn’t give them a break on the rent, just hope for flowers in addition to the rent.

I don’t know, I think if a vet told me twisted gut, I’d want more than a listen or a rectal exam. That’s asking for a lot of faith in what is essentally an opinion when you are talking about putting a horse down, don’t you think?

I ran into Beth in town again yesterday, and the horse is doing fine.

LOL...I guess she has been getting a lot of comments from people doubting it was a twisted gut. She told me she has taken to carrying around the paper the vet gave her that says “twisted gut”.

The little I have visited with them they do seem like very nice people. I’m looking forward to having them around.
