PROVIDENCE, RI (TDR)- Oscar, the nursing home cat who could seemingly sense the impending death of patients, was found dead early yesterday. The cat gained recent notoriety when reports of his ability to detect the impending death of the terminally ill became public. Seemingly aware that death was at hand, Oscar would reportedly climb into the bed of patients during their final hours...

“your car killed my cat.”

That's a good one. Too funny.... If I were your brother I would have begun humming the mew, mew, mew song to the neighbor.

“Sure managed to bring out the usual cat-haters on the site, anyway.”

***

And a few outraged cat lovers as well.

I can’t complain though. I’ve been duped by Onion on more than one occasion, and for once I actually read the piece, including the site’s motto before jumping to conclusions. Got a clue early on that this was phony. Of course, there are those who would know it was phony and still be offended.

By the way I have a cat whom I love dearly. It’s just that we have to sometimes step back and enjoy a laugh once in a while.

Still sick on all accounts.
If those who go along with the joke, how about a humor site about the dogs Vick killed.

Interesting transcript: The Story of Oscar the Cat with David M. Dosa, M.D. Assistant Professor of Medicine, Brown University ...who wrote the Article "A Day in the Life of Oscar the Cat" ( The New England Journal of Medicine, July 26). Kinda cool.

Oh, I agree. I don’t even own a cat, haven’t for some years, but I do like them. Their independent nature - and the fact that you can go away for a couple of days without worrying about them - appeals to me. But some people on this site, and in general I guess, seem to have a real hate-on for cats.

Having pulled over a speeding driver.]

Mac: All right, how about Cat Game?

Foster: Cat Game? What’s the record?

Mac: Thorny did six, but I think you can do ten.

Foster: Ten? Starting right meow?

[They go up to the car.]

Driver: Sorry about the...

Foster: All right meow. Hand over your license and registration.

[The man gives him his license.]

Foster: Your registration? Hurry up meow.

Driver: [laughing] Sorry.

Foster: Is there something funny here boy?

Driver: Oh, no.

Foster: Then why you laughing, Mister... Larry Johnson?

[Foster stares at him.]

Foster: All right meow, where were we?

Driver: Excuse me, are you saying meow?

Foster: Am I saying meow?

Driver: I thought...

Foster: Don’t think boy. Meow, do you know how fast you were going?

[The man laughs.]

Foster: Meow. What is so damn funny?

Driver: I could have sworn you said meow.

Foster: Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin’ around all nimbly-bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?

[The man is uncontrollably laughing.]

Foster: You stop laughing right meow!

Driver: [Stops and swallows hard.] Yes sir.

Foster: Meow, I’m gonna have to give you a ticket on this one. No buts meow. It’s the law.

[Rips off the ticket and hands it to the man.]

Foster: Not so funny meow, is it?

[Foster gets up to leave, but Mac shakes his hands at him, indicating only nine meows.]

Foster: Meow!

I heard that one of the owners of the facility had just bought a bed for the cat so it would have a bed of its own. It was found dead in its own bed, the first time it slept in it.

When someone is dying perhaps they send out a certain kind of energy and that’s why the cat was sitting next to them. Kind of how a dog can be trained to detect a person about to have a seizure. Just a theory.

I would not doubt that. My cat once “heard” the bookshelf that was about to fall, and ran away seconds before it did. My other cat acted funny before one of the bigger earthquakes near here as well.

I just felt sorry for the cat. I would love to have a cat beside me in my last hours.

I doubt they will catch the nursing home resident who did it :>)

They just might, though. Unless they're on one of those scooters, they don't tend to walk/run very fast.

I remember the original article saying that it was either the cat was psychic or he chose a dying patient because the patient was frequently covered with heated blankets.

That doesn’t seem too hard to figure out why he chose that particular patient.

Poor kitty.

I do not understand people’s anger at the cat. We all die. We all face death 24/7. I would be very grateful to have such a lovely furry creature acknowledging my presence in my last hours or days.

I was not angry at the cat.

I was minding my own business, visiting my elderly neighbor when the cat jumped up on my lap.

I was not taking any chances.

"One knowledgeable source - who agreed to speak with us on the condition of anonymity - confirmed increasing animosity toward the animal, and that a dented bedpan was found near the body."
