I am aware that Google is my friend and would have resolved my question long ago by that means. Unfortunately, spelling variations -- of which there are an infinite number -- yield different, large sets of hits, because lots of people say this now.

But just as "yada yada yada" has always been with us, it only became extremely popular after they started saying it on Seinfeld.

I don't believe you KNOW the genesis of this expression in contemporary pop culture, but thanks for playing. And to you: BWAAAHAAHAA

Could it be just bwaaahaa? That would be Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons tag, every time something bad happens to somebody when Nelson is around (usually it’s caused by him) he points and expels a big “bwaahaa”.

Here’s his wiki

That sounds reasonable...thanks. (I always enjoyed the Simpsons but rarely see it anymore.)

Any time I see someone do that, I hear Homer Simpson in my mind. I remember episodes where he would just bust out in laughter, and it sounded just like that.

Well, I doubt the South Park guys got it from here, but I’m familiar with “Bwha-ha-ha” as Keith Giffen and JM DeMattis used to use that particular laugh during their run on “Justice League” during the late 80s/early 90s. It was written in the books exactly like that, but they were trying to imply the type of ominous chuckle that the bad guy in old movies would use.

Does that make any sense? Probably not. Anyway, just imagine Vincent Price laughing when you see it, and you’ll be pretty close.

Aw geez.

I do that same damn “sticking out your tongue” thing that Stan is doing when I play. Stupid South Park making fun of me...

Could be Homer, I guess, although it seems to me a little nastier than the usual vibe from The Simpsons.

Bart and Homer are "innocent" bad boys...who seem like they might be soothed with a hug. Some of the other shows and movies that were inspired by the Simpsons took a darker turn.

When someone bwaahaas on FR, I general interpret it as kind of a verbal "mooning" (and am not much charmed).

Sounds like you might be on to something, Starter.

(I am giving up on my idea that there is one, universally known source.)

Wikipedia’s unsourced response was that it’s just a rendering of an evil laugh with various spellings. Think of the villain from the early silent movies and probably even earlier on stage - any victorious evil laugh, generally somewhat camp in tenor.

I specifically Googled for a Wiki article but could not find anything that made sense to me. Could you share your URL...thanks.

Sure. BTW - I gather you're a Rach fan? He's our son's favorite pianist (currently a piano major at UH).

Right here.

I’ve been slinging rock guitar since the late ‘60’s and REFUSE to play that game.

It’ll f**k up my real playing something awful, I fear. Besides.....I’d keep reaching for strings, frets, etc......

My boys, on the other hand...........addicted (again, except the one who is a REAL bass player; hmmmmmm.......)

Oh, I agree. If I could actually play a guitar, I’d never touch it. But now I can pretend... you actually get quite a rush...

I have heard that most real guitarists are not very good at it.

Although I guess Slash, Tom Morello and Dave Grohl are all fans since they appear in the newest game. In an article about it Tom Morello did say he hoped they made him better in the game than he really was.
