It's just plain stupid and unnecessary, yes, but much worse than that, in my opinion. No point in rehashing all the reasons. Suffice it to say that if Junior ever has a year in which he leads the points most of the season, then has it all taken away from him like Jeff had last year, "Junior Nation" will come unglued and NASCAR will change the format so fast it would make your head swim.
I just read the other day that Dale Sr would have lost 2 or 3 of his if the Chase was in effect back in the day.
Yeah, but he’s on our team now. :)
And thank GOd for that!!
The DEI cars looked pretty sad in testing.
Also, DEI is going back years in their records and having Mark Martin tape a call to all the fans to gain their favor back. They still haven’t figured out that all those fans belong to Jr and we’re gone.
Jr was at the Nationwide test today, he was practicing drafting in the 88 and the 5 car. That boy is all business this year, so look out.
All’s fine as long as he remembers who to push on the last lap. :)
No no no, remember Jeff doesn’t like bump draftin. :D
and in the &^%$#% News................
Question: Any news on the return of 24? MB
Ausiello: Well, although Fox hasn’t confirmed it, I’ll go out on a limb and say Jack Bauer isn’t returning this season. Even if the strike ends tomorrow, the earliest the show could get back on the air is this summer and there’s no way in hell Fox is dumping 24 onto the summer season. That leaves the network with several options, none of them ideal. One solution is to just kick off Season 7 next January, but by then Jack will have been in hiding for nearly two years. Another, and much more controversial, scenario being bandied about involves taking the eight episodes currently in the can and creating a 10- to 14-episode mini-season to air in the fall. That would be followed by another 10- to 14-episode mini-season featuring a completely different plot during the second half of the season. Opponents of that idea have argued, and rightly so, that by splitting the season, you’re essentially compromising the show’s unique, 24-hour conceit. Proponents, however, argue that these are desperate times. And sometimes desperate times require throwing out the rulebook. I can see that point as well. What do you guys think? Would you rather wait until January and get a traditional uninterrupted 24-episode season? Or would you prefer getting the show back in the fall, even if that meant splitting the season up into two shorter, self-contained chunks? Or do you have another solution? Weigh in with your thoughts in the Ask Ausiello Discussion Thread. I have a feeling Fox will be interested in what you have to say.
That, of course, will always be just speculation, because there's no way to know how Big E would have raced if he had to deal with the chase.
The flip side of such speculation is also valid. Based on their history in non-chase races, it isn't likely the 48 would have won their 2 championships without the chase. And Jeff would have 6 championships without it.
That fathead, JJ, is already salivating over the possibility of ripping off some of Junior's setups. He's said that he and Junior have similar driving styles and he "looks forward to sharing information" with the 88. Yeah. Right. With the 48, it's everyone shares with them, and not the other way around.
I like Junior far better than the 48, so I'm hoping Junior doesn't put up with any of JJ's crap like Jeff does all the time. Last year after the 26th race, during a TV interview, JJ said, "It's all about me now." Well guess what. Welcome to 2008, JJ. It's all about Junior now.
I wonder of the days when Junior and Smoke worked together at Daytona and Talledega are over.
Did y'all read the articles about how NASCAR is allowing much more horsepower with the new car, and how Toyota engines are making a ton of HP compared to other teams that tested (except for the HMS teams, that is)?
With more HP, I wonder if we'll see pack racing and drafting like we used to at Daytona and Talledega.
Pretty much have given up on 24 anyway. It's too hard for me to say what I'll be doing next week and any given time much less 6, 12, 18 weeks out. Then we get the the PC garbage and it's too much to swallow.
Don't really know about the hp thing. Would almost seem to be required with all the garbage they've added to the cars.
Who knows, it may even take drafting out of the equation, but either way, if there is drafting, I think they will all draft with whomever is handy regardless of team connections.
I’ve read that the COT “The Car of Today” Phooey.....will not pull up to the back of the car in front, therefore no pushing. I did see a few bumps drafts in testing but not much. Something about the shape of the car and the gear ratio “I think”
IIRC Dega was a snoozefest with three separate packs lined up until the very end when JJ Jeff and Smoke went for the lead, with Jeff coming out the winner. Lots of DEI blown engines and a big one.
Here’s what Ryan Newman had to say....
“I was driving around with one hand, running 15th just riding, on and off the gas. It’s not racing. If we’re going to do that, why don’t we just make it a 100-mile race, and we’ll tear them all up in the first 50.”
— Ryan Newman
Have you got a link to back that up?
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Steve Wallace knocked down the fence - literally - at Daytona International Speedway on Monday.
The second-year driver was leaving the garage through an opening on pit road when he lost control of his No. 66 Rusty Wallace Racing Chevrolet and slammed into a chain-link fence and pole behind the pit wall. Part of a gate was knocked off its hinges, and another part of the fence was twisted.

Nor have I but I have torn the mirror off my PU twice :(
Your weather offshore is showing circulation, albeit slow. Down here, we name those things, so be ready!
So far we’ve been below freezing, now drizzle and fog next back to the 70’s over the weekend. I feel like I’m on a weather roller coaster. Everyone here is sick, I’m knocking on wood so far I’ve escaped. Must be all the Lysol wipes amd Purell I use at work.
