I watched the Dallas-Green Bay game in a sports bar, so the crowd noise fortunately drowned out Bryant Gumball’s hallucinatory rantings.

How would you rate Bryant Gumbel as an NFL announcer?

Terrible 46% 20,733

Poor 24% 10,586

Fair 17% 7,538

Good 8% 3,760

Excellent 5%

In other words, 70% rate him as terrible or poor! LOL!!!!

Reversing it, only 13% rate him as excellent or good!!!

Gumbel mistakes Frank Gore of the 49'ers for "Al".

Imagine Gumball calling a NO-SF game.

The best is Mike Tirico - that guy does his homework and he is watching the game on the field rather than the monitor so he picks up stuff off screen.

The funniest part about Gumbel is that he is epically bad at his job and no one thinks he realizes it. His play-by-play is like a satire of what a play-by-play would sound like by a bimbo who knows nothing about sports, like an SNL skit. He’s so bad, you really are in total disbelief that it’s as bad as it is. You believe that he has naked pictures of the owner of NFLN cavorting with a goat and a “live boy” (to quote Edwin Edwards) because there really is no other explanation. I heard him refer to a 4th down punt as a “turnover on downs.” He has called Frank Gore “Al Gore” multiple times in a game. He is a first class moron with a terrible announcing voice. NFLN, was Fran Drescher unavailable?

I agree Tirico has been surprisingly good. My favorite is still Al Michaels.

I don’t get NFL Network but another thing turned me off while watching the game. I watched it on HD and seemed like they always had trouble getting the cameras to focus correctly. Drove me nuts.

Worst announcer in the history of the universe should have been an option.

Shannon Sharpe is a buffoon and I don’t mind him there because he makes me laugh out loud at how retarded he is and how poorly he speaks. Bill Cowher and Marino are the waste of spaces there.

Let’s put that number in perspective. It required six channels in prime time to surpass the 33.8 million who watched the Nov. 4 Patriots-Colts afternoon game on CBS.

It didn't "require" six channels. I'm pretty sure that the same number of people would have watched the game if it were just on one (available) channel.

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. What were they thinking?!

They should try and get Costas to do the play-by-play, even though he hasn't done it in ages. He and Collinsworth seem to have good chemistry.

If he is that unpopular, I believe we have found Hillary Clinton's running mate.

I also noticed that every time a kickoff or punt is going toward Devin Hester, the perspective is always from the end zone he is headed toward. Not only does he change the kicking game for the other team, he also seems to be changing the coverage as well.

I was watching this game with a few friends, and we all decided that the ratings would be better if they got rid of Gumbel and just put microphones in our living room. The commentary was much more entertaining, but would probably have to be on 7-second delay.

If they'd dump Kornheiser and replace him with Dick Vermeil, they'd have a good team there.

When Vermeil and Jaworski were together on the Chargers-Raiders game last season, they were probably the best color team I've heard in years. The way they actually explained what was going on on the field was very refreshing.

I agree with the majority here, that Gumbel sucks, but he did cook off one good line Saturday night. From today's Barstool Sports, a free sports weekly in Boston:

Kudos to Bryant Gumbel for saying Vince Wilfork did "the Moe, Larry, Curly thing" on the eyepoke. It wasn't hilarious, but that's the closest he's come to saying something funny in 30 years of broadcasting. Especially because you know Greg was the kid digging on the Stooges in the Gumbel house while little Bryant was wearing suits, studying current events and practicing his non-regional dialect. If you get the two of them together and say "NIII-ag-ra Falls..." you know Greg's the one that will know what to say.

The problem with Bob Costas, other than the fact that he talks to much...is the fact that he talks TOO DAMN MUCH!

I was flipping back and forth to a bowl game and then I realized I could turn the Bryan sound off and just watch the picture. Can you imagine Bryant Gumbo and Jeanne Zelesko paired up doing any kind of sporting event. I wouldn’t bet they could cover a checkers tournament.

I find him smug and annoying but he did play in the league for several years so he’s got that going for him.

Gumball is one of the worst ever.....

Manning has one more year to step up into the next level of he’s simply going to be a trick or treat guy. The Giants also lost some key players Saturday night.

He wasn’t wrong on those two issues.

He still sucks though.
