But there are 3d6 — I remember rolling up my characters — it was a fine day when I got a 18 strength dwarf warrior.
Of course the dipstick got an 6 intelligence and got toasted by picking the wrong thing to eat in the forest on the way to the castle...

Apple II+ myself
No lowercase; had the thing so overclocked, I kept the top popped off. Big advance from 48 to 64K.
Then I got an AppleCat Modem and would hack phone trunk lines and prank call Japan.
Wardialer to pick up modems.
Ah, the days.

Gygax' wife says he always enjoyed hearing from the game's devoted fans about how the game influenced their lives Gary must have been a sadist of sorts. My observation in college was that its influence was mostly giving its players a straight F report card and dismisal slips.

Attack the darkness, Gary!
Really sad. We have a copy of the original game around here somewhere.

NOW THE REAL QUESTION is:DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS:
You are in an open field west of a big white house with a boarded front door.
Yes.
I also have the original Fortran source code sitting on a mainframe tape reel...
To: MeanWestTexan
"You are in an open field west of a big white house with a boarded front door." "You are in an elliptical field south of a big white house. Suddenly, you make a spot check and find a raging Hildebeest approaching you. What do you do?"
