Ex-Fox figure Tony Snow heads to CNN

If you want evidence of CNN’s use of the 2008 primary season to chart its resurgence in the cable TV news wars, look no further than today’s announcement that the Atlanta-based network has hired former White House spokesman Tony Snow as a “political contributor.”

Prior to his stint in the Bush administration, which ended last September, Snow was a dominant personality for Fox News. We could tell you about Snow’s background, but it’d be more fun for you to get it from the Fox web site. The info is not likely to be there long.

The official word from CNN/U.S. includes a comment from president Jon Klein:

“In the White House, Tony brought a remarkably human touch to the discussion of public policy, which he will continue to do as part of the….”

Too bad he went over to CNN, I try not to watch them.

I don’t watch them, but Tony will be an improvement and if they keep improving I may try it .

Moving to the side of traitors makes him one.

Of course, you are right. People who believe that the on-air staff are independent of the television management/owners are naive in the extreme. I wonder if they go into their local McDonalds hoping that the guy behind the counter has finally decided to start serving filet mignon.

Sorry I can't agree with Tony. Moving to the side of traitors makes him one.
Flame on!

Glen Beck has done things on CNN/HN that I would have bet my life we would never see. Tony Snow has proven to be a man of similar, uncompromising principles.

If the result is two clear voices for the good side, I salute their good work in the lion's den.

_______

No flame other than to say, trying growing up, why doncha? He is a tv personality (a good one at that) who needs to work.

Does anyone in the leadership of the company you work for support Dems? By your logic, that would make you a traitor as well, wouldn’t it?

Interesting perspective my FRiend. CNN is a traitor. Liberal slant, yeah, but traitor? Sounds to me like you are throwing the flames. I can remember watching Crossfire on CNN and thinking how silly the left looked. And that was a good thing. Tony Snow worked for CNN before he worked for Fox. Several conservatives have been at CNN, even if in the minority.

You calling Tony, a man of character and kindness, a traitor because he chose to work for CNN makes you deserving not of being flamed, but of being ignored. Unfortunately, your comment has aggravated me to the point I cannot ignore it.

The media has a liberal bias, so if one chooses to work in the media, odds are one will work for a liberal company. It simply boggles my mind that anyone on FRee Republic demeans Tony, one of our most prominent FReepers. Sure, he has some opinions we disagree with, but we all have different versions of Conservatism.

Our country is faced with two Democratic candidates who are so far left they will take this country down a path of socialism. Perhaps directing your criticism at them would be a lot more productive.

"there really isn't much difference between these so-called conservatives & the idiot libs. They ALL are about MONEY..."

FReepers have the quaint habit of calling anyone who disagrees with their brand of conservatism "so called" conservatives. Of course, the worst thing you can call a conservative is a liberal. [And nowadays, "idiot liberal" is redundant.]

That someone would choose to take the best offer [money] is right in line with the profit motive that the Founding Fathers understood and supported.

Tony Snow has a wife and kids that he is trying to support while burdened with excessive medical costs and looming college tuitions. Anyone who would criticize his choice of CNN might do well to walk a mile in his shoes. Personally, I find the thought of a FReeper at CNN a good thing!

TNT! Glad to see you rallying the SnowFlakes. You have been quiet for too long and we have missed you, schoolmate. I know with the three candidates before us today, you have probably been thinking you now live in the Peoples’ Republic of America. Who would have thunk McCain would be the standard bearer?

Hope you are enjoying the sun and surf.

You're right, of course. But I can't ignore the fact that there are quite a few so-called conservatives out there.

Seldom, when I rant, do I get anyone who says I am right. And never “of course”. So thank you.

Much of the problem seems to derive from the fact there are different types of conservatives. Social, fiscal, government, Constitutional come to mind. And while a “true” conservative would hopefully encompass all, in reality, they seldom do.

After getting in many debates, I realized I was often debating individual issues, and not the underlying principles. In fact, I am amazed by today's liberals who have taken a tradition of tolerance and open mindedness and turned it into an intolerant, almost fascist one.

When I was growing up, we at first had only radio. Wonderful period. Then television arrived with just a few channels and we were still pretty homogeneous. Now we have cable and satellite and, worse to my way of thinking, programs in languages other than English. We are becoming so segmented that we are even turning against those who in years past would have been in our same tent.

It has generally been the case that it takes a threat from the outside to unite us. 9-11 did briefly. Unfortunately, and I blame the government for this, we have not been adequately shown the threats that we need to unite against.

lainie, it is late and I am sleepy. Bet you could tell by the way I started drifting off into doublespeak. I just really wanted to return the compliment and say you were right, too.

Good night, fellow FReeper.
