From Here To Heaven
We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. —Ephesians 2:10

Pro athletes and coaches sometimes get something for nothing. Let’s say a coach signs a 3-year contract, and the team agrees to pay him $1 million a year. But in his first season, the team is terrible and management fires him. So, the coach leaves but still has 2 more years of pay coming to him. He gets the next $2 million without doing a thing.

We as Christians have to be careful that we don’t view our saving faith like that. We must never think, “Hey, I’m saved. I’ve got eternal riches coming my way. I don’t have to do anything for God.”

That’s partially right but very wrong. In one regard, our journey from here to heaven is paid for in full by Jesus’ sacrifice. There’s nothing we can do to earn salvation. But there’s another part of this that we must consider.

In Ephesians 2:8-9, after Paul clearly says that we do not have to “do” anything and that salvation is a “gift of God,” he goes on. Verse 10 says we indeed have a job to do. As believers, we are “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” God has tasks planned for us to do while we are on this earth—not to pay our debt but to honor our Savior.

Life from here to heaven is not a vacation cruise—it’s a wonderful privilege and calling to serve God.

Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize
And sailed through bloody seas? —Watts

We are not saved by good works but for good works.

The sentence "Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose." was written by Gertrude Stein as part of the 1913 poem Sacred Emily, which appeared in the 1922 book Geography and Plays. In that poem, the first "Rose" is the name of a woman. Stein later used variations on the phrase in other writings, and "A rose is a rose is a rose" is probably her most famous quote, often interpreted as "things are what they are." In Stein's view, the sentence expresses the fact that simply using the name of a thing already invokes the imagery and emotions associated with it. As the quote diffused through her own writing, and the culture at large, Stein once remarked "Now listen! I’m no fool. I know that in daily life we don’t go around saying 'is a … is a … is a …' Yes, I’m no fool; but I think that in that line the rose is red for the first time in English poetry for a hundred years." (Four in America)

Versions by Gertrude Stein
“Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.” (Sacred Emily, Geography and Plays)
“Do we suppose that all she knows is that a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.” (Operas and Plays)
“... She would carve on the tree Rose is a Rose is a Rose is a Rose is a Rose until it went all the way around.” (The World is Round)
“A rose tree may be a rose tree may be a rosy rose tree if watered.” (Alphabets and Birthdays)

Red Red Rose, by Harold Davis

Variations by others
* The sentence was parodied by Ernest Hemingway after a brief time in Paris seeking editorial suggestions for his writing: “a stone is a stein is a rock is a boulder is a pebble.” This also appears in his 1940 novel For Whom the Bell Tolls, in which there is yet another parody: * “A rose is a rose is an onion.” After a (perhaps bitter) falling out, the phrase becomes, “a bitch is a bitch is a bitch is a bitch.”
* The phrase appears in the 1952 musical film Singin’ in the Rain, in the musical number “Moses Supposes.” While parodying a dialogue coach, the characters of Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown sing: “A Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is / A rose is for Moses as potent as toeses / Couldn't be a lily or a daphi daphi dilli / It's gotta be a rose cuz it rhymes with mose!”
* In the 1960 Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie (and its 1963 film adaptation), the character of Albert Peterson refers to the saying in the song “Rosie”, in which he sings, “Oh, I once heard a poem that goes / A rose is a rose is a rose / But I don't agree / Take it from me / There's one rose sweeter than any that grows!”
* In the 1978 film, The Magic of Lassie, Robert & Richard Sherman penned the song, “A Rose Is Not A Rose”.
* Bret Easton Ellis sent up the phrase in his 1991 novel American Psycho, as narrator Patrick Bateman utters, “a Rolls is a Rolls is a Rolls” during one of his frequent materialist stream-of-consciousness tirades

"Hug Your Cat Day".

If you've ever been blessed to share space with a feline
You'll soon be aware that these creatures define
Grace and elegance with an unique and haughty air

On silent paws they creep while you are fast asleep
Checking for things amiss with fastidious care
Either indoors or wrapped in the ebon cool of night

For all the cat sees belongs to she or he
And that includes pets and hugs when the time is right
The cat will let you know when that time will be

Though if life sometimes is sad
The cat will sense it and won't get mad
If you lift and hug it close for a silent tete a tete

In Feline Contracts it is quietly noted
In small print and rarely quoted
That every day can be "Hug Your Cat Day"

Appearing to be, just little brats,
Nevertheless, they are caring cats.
Qualified to leap, to unreachable heights
Always more frisky, particularly at night.

Able to run sideways, even on walls
Keeping in balance, never to fall.
Accused of being finicky, when I call it class
An affectionate nature, they're caring cats.

When talking to a cat, to make you aware
They shift their ears, to tell you they hear.
The light that shines, from their eyes at night
Alone in the dark, a mysterious sight.

Captivating your love, with a relaxing purr
Displaying affection, attentive to words.
Their spirited nature, being mischievous cats
Compassionate felines, they're caring cats.

We had a nice visit with Marissa’s teacher and ...
I was asked to accompany the class on a field trip to Valley Children’s Hospital on Tuesday. This is a field trip that Marissa has been anticipating all year.

Reason for being asked? .... I drive a van. LOL

So next Tuesday, I will be AWOL again.

Lightening was striking with blinding flashes,

Thunder was crashing with deafening blows.

She could hear him breathing accross the room.

She knew she should stay where she was,

But she wanted the comfort and security of his arms.

Slowly, through the darkness of the room

She crept to the couch where he sat.

She slid onto the cushion next to him

And he surrounded her with his strong arms.

Then a flash, a click of a camera, and they were caught.

Caught in a forbidden embrace - a dog/cat hug!
