Heinz pulls mayonnaise ad over gay kiss furore
The Times ^ | 06/24/08 | Jenny Booth

A mayonnaise ad that shows two men kissing has been withdrawn from television after 200 viewers complained that it was offensive. Heinz, which makes the New York Deli Mayo featured in the commercial, pulled the advertisement less than a week into its expected five week run, in response to the criticism. Viewers told the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that the ad was inappropriate and unsuitable for children to see. The ASA has not yet decided whether to launch an investigation. snip..... It is understood that the commercial was not shown during children's television programming, because of new rules from Ofcom that restrict ads for products high in fat, salt and sugar.

Has this run in America? I saw it the other night over here.

Curiously it wasn't shown at peak kids viewing time because the mayo isn't a healthy food. Go figure...?

Kissing is the least offensive thing gay guys do with mayonnaise.

“Kissing is the least offensive thing gay guys do with mayonnaise.”

You mean like when they use it to make a Manwich.

Wait a minute...I saw a Kraft commercal the other day that was singing the praises of real Mayo because “it’s got nothing artificial!” That’s right, mayo is now a health food, fat and all, because it’s “all natural!!!”

No, it hasn’t run in America that I’m aware, but apparently there were enough people who viewed the commercial over the ‘net who thought it was a completely realistic slice of homosexual life being flaunted at them and demanded justice for their seared retinas.

So they got it wrong...it was OK for the kids to view!?

Heck I’m confused. Mayo’s healthy, Gay’s fine....

Curiously, the thing I find most offensive is that it is actually illegal to advertise mayonnaise during the day. Is there anything left that isn’t specifically addressed with a law? Anything at all?

It’s probably run on HGTV. Every other “couple” is gay on that network.

I just watched it on Youtube.

Macho type New York sounding guy in chef suit making sandwiches for the pre-teen boy and girl to take to school.

Girl says "thanks mom" and leaves.

Guy comes in, grabs briefcase and jacket says good bye and begins to leave.

Chef says..."Aye..fuggetn sumpn?"

Dad comes back, they kiss on the lips, then mom says "see ya sweet cheeks..."

I'll have to check to see if there are other brands of mayo and catsup...ya think?
