Aw sorry about the.... Have you had him on Rymadil before? I don’t remember.
Homer went to the vet yesterday about itchy skin. We’ve tried different non-allergy foods, we’ve had him on prednizone and it’s no longer helping. His issues are so beyond normal that it’s beginning to be a quality of life issue.
He’s a mess.
Well we got talked into a very expensive medication and I’m still not sure we can or should really afford it. It’s $270 retail for the first month of meds, though our vet gave a considerable break on that, and hopefully after the first month it can be dropped down to more occasional dosage, a couple times a week ideally, instead of every day. Even ordering the generic online, it will be around $6 per dose.
The drug is Cyclosporine, which was originally used to keep people from rejecting organ transplants. I guess it just shuts down immune responses. I hope it helps... the results are going to have to be real good for this to be worth while.
LOL! Yeah, there’s something to be said for domestication!
err... sorry about the POOCH!
And speaking of well fed; we’re off to the $8.95, All You Can Eat, Chinese/Japanese buffet. We didn’t eat breakfast, and we won’t need supper, so we’re putting the feed bags on! ;o)
Poor Sam! Hope the Docs can make him more comfortable!
Yes, we’ve tried Rymadil, but he has an infection under his arm so the vet wants him to do his antibiotics and a round of steroids first. The Rymadil apparently doesn’t react well with the steroids. I think she’ll put him on that when we go back in a couple of weeks.
His weight has shifted to the front because he’s relying more on his front paws to get up the stairs.
Add that to his allergy and some other stuff and I just dropped another $200 at Pet Meds.
Hmmmm...maybe ACORN could help me figure out how to declare him as a dependent.
We’ve had Gypsy to three different vets 9 times in the past 13 days, so we know what you’re going through; we feel your pain.
OB & LSA
You know, when we all met our dogs were sorta young...
Yes... that's right. Rymadil is a non-steroidal anti inflammatory, and you can't use them both at the same time.
Hmmmm...maybe ACORN could help me figure out how to declare him as a dependent.
Oh - I'm sure they could! Don't forget the camera! :~)
I've actually lost the ones I started here with, and I'm on my second string of dogs getting old.
He refuses to wear the mini skirt.
Well, true. 'Course you take in more than the rest of us. :-)
Didn't you have Gidget when we all met?
You have done a wonderful job trying to get Homer’s skin issue resolved.
Since we both adopt older dogs, it’s just that they are getting older, not that we are.
LSA
Awww, puppies, you gotta love ‘em! I bet Mischief had a very entertaining time chewing that harness apart.
LSA
Monster!
Probably did have Gidget, but she would have been a young dog then. She’s nearing 10 now I think...
I don't have a dog, but I have a dog story today.
I took my mom for her monthly appointment with the cardiologist. One of the patients in the waiting room had a nice large Malamute as a service dog.
The woman had raised Boo from a puppy to be a sled dog, and had already had him pulling a sled.
Then she had an epileptic seizure, and Boo went to work as a service dog while she was in rehab. It was a piece of cake for him to pull her in a wheelchair. With a harness on him, she could grab a rescue handle, and he was strong enough to pull her all over the neighborhood, if needed.
He worked out so well, he received extra training from some professionals who train service dogs. She's out of her wheelchair now, but Boo still helps her live on her own. She said he's so proud of his new job that bounces and prances around when she says, "it's time to go to work".
Handsome dog (I'm a sucker for big, furry dogs), and a great companion for her. You could tell Boo really, really wanted some attention from folks, but he knew he was still on duty.
