Dropping Leaflets, is it legal?

Posted on 10/10/2008 9:15:54 AM PDT by Bugs66

I was curious... since the MSM is solidly in the tank for Obama and actively campaigning for him, I was trying to think of alternate ways to get the McCain-Palin message out. Does anyone know of the legalities of dropping leaflets at night over cities? One should use biodegradable, rapid decay paper of course so the littering factor would be small.

I am a pilot and could easily drop leaflets at night. It would be great to have a movement of pilots across many cities (especially battleground states) drop leaflets.

Oh dear...if the DUmmies do their own version of the FReeper Funnies...this would unfortunately be a great candidate.

That said, I imagine it would probably be illegal to go around dropping leaflets and it might even get you a little interview with the DHS.

Sorry this would be tantamount to trying to practice your 1st Amendment right and that is not permissable in Amerika.

It’s kinda like saying the “H” word.

anyone who doesn't know how they will vote at this point is an idiot.

carpet bombing the local acorn headquarters would be a start, but i think that would get you in more trouble than a ticket for littering...

:^)

FAR 91.15 No pilot in command of a civil aircraft may allow any object to be dropped from that aircraft in flight that creates a hazard to persons or property. However, this section does not prohibit the dropping of any object if reasonable precautions are taken to avoid injury or damage to persons or property.

I do know that a leaflet or a sign does not influence my vote. As a matter of fact I find signs and leaflets aggravating!

The first thing is that the BO enforcement gang would write you up for littering.

The second thing they would do is put headlines in the NY Slimes that you are damaging the world environment by using trees for your dastardly political agenda.

Bad idea.

No. It’s littering, and dropping things on populated areas is frowned on by the FAA. As in give up your pilot’s license. And for good reason.

It is not illegal to leaflet cars with National Right to Life flyers, atleast not in my state of Idaho. We do it at every church, (except the liberal ones) in every town in 5 counties. Some chase us away, but it is legal. We put the leaflets on the door they get into to, like on the handle if possible. If that doesn't work on the windshield.

Another thing I do is stuff paper boxes, that is legal. You can also stuff stuff door to door like all precinct people are supposed to do. We stuff plastic door hanger sacks and put them on every door knob, but you can just leave them on the door, or porch somehow.

Better yet, knock on the door and introduce yourself and hand them the information. It is surprising how rewarding this is, and surprising how many people you influence this way.

I have knocked on thousands of doors for years and I find that when I knock on the door and say, Hi I am ----- and I am campaigning for -----. That the person at the door usually brings up an issue that they find very important. In my case I have found that the issue brought up at the door more often than not is prolife. But also many of these were planning to vote democrat.

If you can refer them to the Republican platform online somewhere, etc.

Get in touch with your local GOP, or "Right to Life" orhanization etc..

What state are you in, I will find info for you.

Thanks guys. I am just investigating the feasibility right now. If the leaflets are very small and biodegradeable/recycled I would think littering would be a non-issue. There are other problems, such as getting a printer to produce thousands of these leaflets. Might be a brick wall.

I feel your desperation. We have two colleges and one technical school in our city. I was thinking about putting something together and tacking it on their bulletin boards around the school.

No,that is most certainly littering, and a crime. Being biodegradable means nothing. Throwing an apple core out of a car window is littering, and it’s biodegradable.
