Hey all!

Got my laptop, and I absolutely love it! Talk about a kid in a candy shop! A very ignorant kid—I’m having a ball but it takes some getting used to. No trouble getting on and I’m sitting in the den with hubby instead of my usual corner. :)

Went to Raleigh for the weekend, got to see my new nephew. He’s a doll.

Thanks for the pings, everybody.

Thank you for the buttons comments..These are "five button"
shoes" just like my mother's that she had bronzed to keep and
display..She was born in 1900. I found these while button hunting. Buttons Day turned out to be a fun research .

Thanks!

I’ve been agonizing over the new puter for awhile. I did some research, ended up getting a Macbookpro. I am loving it, but will probably hate myself for spending so much money. :)

No doubt about it—it’s way smarter than I am! LOL

Corban Fisher probably won’t learn to walk til he starts school! Right now he’s like everybody’s favorite toy at show and tell!

My son and his family are safe (I am SO thankful).

He called this morning and told me the smoke is almost gone.

My heart goes out to all those that have lost everything they have. Today, as I walked around my house, I looked with a ‘new’ eye, at the treasures I have amassed (thinking of all those thousands, who have lost everything):

My grandaughter’s hundreds of pictures since birth, my grandaughter’s handprints in clay, the necklace my first grandchild made me, the little bag of earth from La Capilla Del Santo Nino De Atocha, the old child’s rocking horse with glass eyes, and horsehair tail, the little shoes from a grandma’s trunk a hundred years ago, my half doll, Mr. Bob, (who always loves me no matter what), the Ivory Nativity scene my father bought my mother, spending rent and grocery money for, the volumes of James Whitcomb Riley’s works, my grandma’s rolling pin and the vase she put on the table every day with fresh flowers, the mirror my parents got as a wedding gift - 70 years ago, my music selection on hundreds of CD’s, my laptop - my desk top - OMG - there are SO many things that have a place in my life - my heart.

But the one thing I could not manage without? My family - and my friends, online and off. As long as I have you all (and them), I will make it.

Hugs to you all - and prayers for all those who have lost so very much.

....and you! Don’t forget how important YOU are, Yorkie!

Praise God that your son and his family are safe! It has been
so emotional for the people of California, and I hope our
hero firefighters can have it under control very soon!

I know what you mean..My grandmother used to say losing your home to fire is second only to losing someone you love..so many memories...I am so happy your son’s home is safe and they are fine..

I had a roof fire once..The lady who knoocked on the door and alerted me told me to call the fire dept..grab the cat, my purse and move the car..all of of which I did..shaking as I could hear the crackling by then..I did not take time to dress..I had on my robe...

I lost nothing of sentimental value..just had water and smoke damage in the house..The attic had extensive burn damage..and we had to stay in an apartment for several months until house repairs were made.
The firemen were great..They came back and pumped water out of my living room once as the plastic did not hold during aa heavy rain the next day.
They tarped my furniture mostly trying to protect it as the got they hoses ready..I still got damage..but they tried.

Firemen have a special place in my heart.

I love those Rhodes frozen rolls and loafs of bread! I have even thawed them out in my microwave on ‘warm’.

Yesterday, after I had thawed out a loaf in my fridge overnight, I rolled it out, brushed it with butter, sprinkled it with sugar and chopped pecans, grated some orange zest over it all, rolled it up, cut it into eight pieces, baked it, covered the hot rolls with a confex sugar icing made with orange zest, butter, vanilla, confex sugar, and a little orange juice. Talk about ‘to die for’. MMmmmmmmmmmm!

After a long talk with my son this morning, I understand the problems that those who have lost their home must be facing.

He said some of the homes lost were 16,000 sq. ft. The owners have spent years, making everything perfect - pool, landscaping, interior decorating, gates, fences, decks, security, furniture, etc. Now, they have nothing - and must stay in a rental until they rebuild. He said, “There are no rentals that are that large. They will no doubt, have to stay in a hotel until they rebuild. And to go from a 16,000 foot home to a hotel room for years, will not be an easy transition”.

They will not be able to take the insurance money and go buy another home - they must rebuild on the land that was destroyed.

Those that lived in the mobile home park (that lost 500 homes), will be able to handle the transition, possibly in an easier way - because it will not take years for them to rebuild.

Of course the psychological damage will be hard on all of those who lost their home and contents!

My heart is with all those people - rich or poor - who lost their heart’s treasures.
