On the comment of an military attack on this country, i am worried about “loose nukes”. With the porous borders both north and south, seems like getting those suitcase bombs across the border is rather easy... If, lets say 5-10 nuclear bombs were to go off at 10 of the largest cities in America, times will get real tough & real soon... May God Bless this Great Nation!
At best, we’ve got four rough years ahead. At worse, all sorts of horrendous scenarios can be imagined. For example, we are overdue for a “second attack.”
I’ve been with FR a long time now, and I think there is no community of people in the country better prepared intellectually and spiritually and with the maturity of judgment to handle whatever comes. A lot of useful information is exchanged in these threads.

If your scenario materializes, and your premise is obviously true that we are broke, Obama will fire up the printing presses and print as much money as “needed”. We will see hyperinflation that will sink us just as effectively and destroy what is left of the US dollar.

We can avert a total catastrophe if enough sane minds come together and elect a new conservative congress in 2 years. We would not come out unharmed, but possibly not totally wiped out. We shall see how hard the Obama / Pelosi / Reid troika push us to the brink in the next 2 years.

Ironically, can’t happen. But if it did, it would actually help the situation.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing works at 100% capacity to print US currency, just to maintain a level of about 5% of our national daily retail trade. Bills typically last under six months before they are returned and destroyed.
This means that we currently have a tremendous cash deflation.
Through an odd chain of circumstances, this could become bizarre.
To start with, the credit card companies also issue bonds, to get loans to back their card holders monthly purchases. Just in the last week, for the first time in many years, no one was willing to purchase these bonds. It would not take many bond issue failures before the credit card companies would have to cancel most or all of their cards.
So many Americans are dependent on credit cards for the monthly survival, that hundreds of thousands of those who have bank checking would overdraft as a group. This would mean either banks canceling bank checking, or retailers refusing bank checks.
This leaves only debit cards and cash as ways to buy things for the typical American. The vast majority would be by debit, but there are still many transactions that require cash.
Our economy would desperately need as much printed cash as we could get, and in a hurry.
But ironically, Obama could not use newly printed cash as “new money”, for the government to spend, because while it would be grand for our cash economy, it would crash the debit economy, which would be far larger.
We have been (as the rest of the world has) following falsehoods.
