Honestly, Another Abe?
National Review ^ | November 21, 2008 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 11/22/2008 12:49:15 AM PST by SMCC1

In an attempt to dial down expectations for his administration, President-elect Barack Obama’s supporters have dropped much of the “messiah” talk.

"No more talk of him being The One (Oprah), or a Jedi Knight (George Lucas), or a “Lightworker” (the San Francisco Chronicle), or a “quantum leap in American consciousness” (Deepak Chopra). Instead we have more humble and circumspect conversation about the man. Now he’s merely Abraham Lincoln and FDR and Martin Luther King, combined"...

Never in the field of human politics was so much acclimation been heaped on one who has done so little.

There is no need for him to walk on water when the waters part before him.

He is a combination of the other two POSs, but surely not Abraham Lincoln. I remember reading about Lincoln saying that blacks could never be the equal of whites, plus he had some morals and values, which fdr mlk and Osama Hussein lack(ed).

But according to “Presidential historian” Michael Beschloss, BO is the smartest man ever to be President, “his IQ is off the charts.”

What a waste if he is not permitted to solve all our problems. He could begin by reducing the number of states; 72 is entirely too many. If we only had 50, it would be much more efficient. BO could do that if only given a chance.

Logically, each virgin should have his or her own state.

I am reading Thomas Paine's Common Sense:

"Government by kings was first introduced into the world by the heathens, from whom the children of Israel copied the custom. It was the most prosperous invention the devil ever set on foot for the promotion of idolatry. ... How impious is the title of sacred majesty applied to a worm, who in the midst of his splendor is crumbling to dust."

And what shall we say then of all the liberals and elites in Washington who fancy themselves truly the modern day equivalent of royalty??

There is a contest on now. I am glad that McCain did not win. Yes,, I voted for him and I supported him! But now, over the next four years,, America will be given a clear choice. Stark socialism/Marxism verse freedom! There is always a tipping point. Just as we saw when gas shot up to 4.00 per gallon. There will be a tipping point for how much socialism America will tolerate.

Here is something from the real Abraham Lincoln:

September, 1862

"The will of God prevails. In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God. Both may be, and one must be, wrong. God cannot be for and against the same thing at the same time. In the present civil war it is quite possible that God's purpose is something different from the purpose of either party -- and yet the human instrumentalities, working just as they do, are of the best adaptation to effect His purpose. I am almost ready to say that this is probably true -- that God wills this contest, and wills that it shall not end yet. By his mere great power, on the minds of the now contestants, He could have either saved or destroyed the Union without a human contest. Yet the contest began. And, having begun He could give the final victory to either side any day. Yet the contest proceeds."

Abraham Lincoln was willing to let a half million men die to strengthen the Federal Government rather than let the States have the power. I wonder what lengths Obama is willing to go to have the US become a Socialist or Communist Nation? Scary....

"Now he’s merely Abraham Lincoln and FDR and Martin Luther King, combined"...

If he's to be considered "Abe Lincoln", then he'll have to start working on freeing the taxpayers from the enslavement of taxpayer-supported socialism. No, I don't mean giving "tax credits" to people that don't pay any federal income tax anyway. I mean reducing taxes on those of us that have been carrying this nation's deadwood for decades.

Lincoln’s aim was to preserve the Union, his purpose was not to stregthrn the federal government nor to weaken the states. He was successful in preserving the Union and for that, Americans owe a debt of gratitude.
