It was not nice, and just 2 days after the anniversary of my dearly beloved Shana dog’s death.
I simply was trying to let Tara have her way when I was cutting. I should’ve made her lie down again, or forced her to stand still. Cutting with scissors-type clippers, right-handed on the left-side rear foot. I’ve never done so badly before and I was afraid I’d cut her toe, it kept bleeding and I couldn’t tell what happened! I’d like to try those Peticures (same principle as Dremel) but I definitely like the scissors better than the guillotine!

Since July, we’ve found ourselves in an awkward position concerning our Mr. Patch, a mostly Lab mixed almost evenly with his mama, a Springer; having inherited the terrible hips of both, he now finds himself dragging where he once pranced.
Three times in the past five months we have taken him to see Dr. Pennington, such a stately name for such a compassionate man - to get more powder to treat his nether region now covered by a once-proud tail.
He spends more time outside now, lying down where the grass, dead as it may be, meets the gravel on which he’s rolled gloriously so many times these last love-filled years.
On each of these visits to Dr. P., knowing glances have been exchanged, tender palpations applied, and an unspoken agreement to just keep holding the Devil in his place and allow the required bureaucratic immunizations to remain in abeyance while we keep faithful watch.
On those extended respites in early winter’s faint sun, sometimes he lies so still that I creep out on little cat feet and touch his neck where he loves to be scratched; while I study his nearly motionless chest - it’s just a matter of time now until that stout heart makes that final leap to merge with my own.
But until that day, me and Patch play the timeless game, neither willing to admit the other won the final round.

I hear Vick’s dogs are doing great in their new forever homes. Didn’t the guy who owns the pit bull Wallace adopt one of them?
To: Mojave
Must have decided the dog wasnt violent enough to keep. But wait. I thought they were ALL violent.
More evidence of the nature of many pit bull owners.
Exactly! It's a people problem, not a breed problem. Glad you agree.
To: PleaseNoMore
I thought they were ALL violent. You're probably right, but some are more violent than others. Dog fights have winners and losers.

Ever read any stories about “pitbulls” saving people?
A quick google search
Pit Bull Saves Child From House Fire
Stray Pit Bull Saves Woman, Child from Attacker.
Pit Bull Saves Man’s Life, Dies a Hero
Hero PitBull saves 7-year-old Queens girl
Pit Bull saves 2 women from deadly cobra,
dies wagging his tail
An ‘Angel’ of a pit bull saves lives of tabby kittens
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=pitbull+saves&aq=f
Check out the ATTS.org website for temperment testing stats.
The APBT and AST achieved a passing rate of 83.4- 84.3%.....almost identical to the golden retriever.
The breeds scores better than beagles, bichons, corgis, cocker spaniels, dalmations, ect.

I REALLY resent you pinging me with a graphic about killing dogs and their owners, too.
I do not want ANY dog KILLED.
I do not want ANY person KILLED.
Take me off of your sick list and go STRAIGHT to HELL.
And do not post to me further.

eesh. Unfortunately I've seen it all too often. This is Holly, a pit bull we rescued a couple of years ago. She has a home now and is fat and happy. Most of her puppies have homes...Cupid and Prancer and Olive the Other Reindeer (rescued them on Christmas Eve). She had them on a cold shelter floor and three died from pneumonia. It's a sad situation for pits at the shelters.

Thanks for the link. Ive read most of this article and its clear the real problem is not the dog breed; instead, as with so many firearms, its the owners. A bunch of vile thugs, like Michael Vick (may he rot in Hell), have taken a group of initially decent dogs, abused them and provoked them to the point of turning them into unsocialized monsters. The same thugs then use them against law abiding people just they way they illegally use guns. Thus, the solution for the pit bull problem is the same as the solution for guns on the street. Get rid of the evil subhumans who are misusing the dogs and the guns. ********************
You're absolutely right!

It's sad that it happens, but Holly and her pups are doin' great. More people need to take reproduction precautions and the rest of us, when we need or want a pet, need to accept the responsibility of "recycling" a pet from the shelter. Sometimes they need work. So, work on it. My own dog, seen on my home page, this little monster who put 25 stitches in a dog catcher's hand, he was worth it. Scared and starved, he fought and fought. Now he sits around full of food and comfort and defends me at 2.5 pounds at the best of his ability. He's a killer. I've fostered pits, beagles, corgies, labs, shorthairs, retrievers, etc. I've owned a kennel. I hunt and I use dogs. It's humans who cause this. Not the dogs. And it's time we took responsibility for what we've done to "man's best friend".
