As much as I like to diss the Bamster, the Jesica Simpson thing is a non issue.
Yesterday, during the Super Bowl pre-game hype on NBC, Matt IamaLiar had a manlovefest gushy interview w/Obama. Matt showed the cover of US magazine w/a nice picture of Michelle and the girls...but the Pres was editted out (and the Simpson blurb was placed where he was). When Lauer held it up Barry just ‘read’ the copy (stupidly...not maligning).

Mrs. O lunched with Washington D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, his wife Michelle, and Jill Biden this afternoon at Georgia Brown’s, a D.C. restaurant known for its traditional Southern classics.
Our ever stylish First Lady was dressed in a medley of blues, including a stunning portrait collar overcoat in light blue herringbone tweed. Underneath she wore a cornflower blue dress with an asymmetrical draped neckline, paired with a blue green cardigan and royal blue patent leather belt to cinch her waist. As “doreen” has observed in the comments, this look is another stand-out example of Mrs. O’s masterful wardrobe remixing. We saw the same belt and cardigan as part of a more dressed down look as Mrs. O volunteered for the National Day of Service. Her shoes, we believe, are the same Jimmy Choo “Glacier” pumps she wore on Inauguration Day.
Jimmy Choo pumps aside, this remains quite the mystery look. An afternoon of research did not reveal the designer. Any tips (anonymous or otherwise) would be most appreciated.
UPDATE: A source reveals that this ensemble was the work of Mrs. O’s hometown designer, Maria Pinto. In fact, we’ve confirmed that the coat is J. Crew! Further, we’ve now confirmed that Mrs. O wore Maria Pinto’s Ella Dress, hand-made from Prussian cashmere. The dress is part of Maria Pinto’s Fall 2009 collection.
Are those purple handkerchiefs in the coat pockets? There’s a splash of color on each side, right about where pockets would be located.
Michelle in addition to bad posture, walk, self consciousness and awkwardness,,,has a terrible sense of color.
She looks good in black and camel. That is my suggestion. Black, camel and occasionally black/white and occasionally all camel with a touch of teal.
I feel sorry for her,,she looks so uncomfortable in her skin,,she just looks miserable and unhappy being a looked at fashion plate.
Jackie on theother hand,,was divine. That pic of her in riding clothes is wonderful. She loved fashion, loved attention and knew how to wear clothes and what looked good on her.
Michelle doesn’t.

I assume they will hire a stylist for her and give her some deportment lessons, but you can't buy class, and you can't really teach it either.
My only criticism of the outfit is that the coat is a Spring color. The dress looks nice, but I’ld like to see her without the belts. I wonder why she belts every outfit? She seems to be a bit high waisted and the belt brings the eye to her worst features. I think she should stay away from the ultra feminine styles and use her height. Turning slightly to one side, when posing like the gentleman standing to her right, would be more flattering. This is something she will leaarn in time. She does look pretty when she smiles.
Actually this outfit isn’t so bad. But the choice of material for a coat does look a bit like fabric for a sofa. Her other interesting accessory are the skinheads for body guards.

Okay, now I see she likes the belted sweater look. We all like the belted sweater look back in the ‘80’s (when we were stick thin). Time to move on Michelle.

What do you bet, the first time they take a trip to Kenya or some other third world nation, or even better yet a Muslim nation that is “opressed” (lets say Syria..lets just say........)-—she will don native garb and be photographed and raves will follow claiming she is a natural African/Muslim/Terrorist Queen...... (dang, I damn near gagged typing that)

What a horrible collar on that coat! It only accentuates how big she is! Jackie O is now rolling in her grave! How can anyone compare the two?
Maybe she’s built that way....all this doesn’t bother me. Seems to me that Eleanor wasn’t all that great of a looker, either. Anyway, what bothers me is what’s inside her brain. I feel it is much uglier than any tacky clothes or poor physical image she could project.

Yes, she appears short waisted, or high waisted as you say. The belts aren’t helping her and that ungodly neckline on the outfit from today is terrible, looks like it simply doesn’t fit her at all.
Using her height to her advantage would be smart, she’s long-legged enough. These outfits pictured actually make her look a bit porky and her stance is best described as ungainly-looking or awkward.
I’m certain she’ll get better at dressing. I recall First Lady Laura used to wear bows on her evening dresses in the early years that didn’t flatter her either. Still, Laura’s natural grace came through and Mrs. Obama will have her work cut out in portraying anything resembling that.
This isnt rocket science...she is TALL......gangly......cant walk worth a crap in a dress......so........Wear Tailored PANTS and blzers and Suits.......
