Folgers, Maxwell House, and Starbucks are America's best-selling ground coffees. But all three were iced by Eight O'Clock Colombian coffee in our taste tests. As for Starbucks, it didn't even place among the top regular coffees and trailed among decafs.
Our tests of 19 coffees also show that some of the best cost the least. At about $6 per pound, Eight O'Clock costs less than half the price of Gloria Jean's, Peet's, and other more expensive brands.
Like your joe without all the caffeine? Dunkin' Donuts and Millstone were the front runners among the decafs. But Folgers Gourmet Selection Lively Colombian came in close behind and costs up to $3 less per pound. But even the best decaffeinated coffees couldn't match the best regular brews in our taste tests.

Dunkin F***ing Donuts!
I drink a lot (I mean a lot) of coffee. I’ll stick with Folgers, Eight O’clock is okay, but nope, Folgers remains our brand, both at home and here in the office.
I drink Folger’s mostly. If I’m out, I’ll go to Dunkin’ Donuts. I also have a Gevalia subscription.
I never did understand the appeal of Starbuck’s other than the “Look at me, I pay $5 for a cup of coffee” factor.
Consumers Reports have been picking Kroger’s 8 O’Clock coffee for 25 years.
We prefer the US Army blend that is sold in the commissary and is the same grind that is provided to the military dining facilities (aka mess halls).
I’ll stick with my Boca Java, thanks.
I am with you and Dennis. That's all I drink, too. None of this pansy caffeine-free crap either. I'd order extra caffeine if I could.
And the Black & Decker DCM2500 at $22.99 was the best coffee pot? Stunning. Go first class and save a bundle.
Me too!
Bill Ayers drinks Starbucks. That’s all you need to know. His taste in coffee is as bad as his taste in women and presidents.
Starbucks coffee is bitter to me. As my Mom used to say, “Its strong enough to sprout legs and walk.” Yuck.
I have found this to be the best deal for the money, in 25 lb bags, and grind my own. here. They have tea and other stuff as well, and one pound bags (trial size, imho), here
Give them a look, and FWIW, I'm just a satisfied customer.
Cold brewed coffee....is the best.
Yup, I drink Caribou and I really like it. For a special treat I will splurge and buy Blue Mountain Jamaican ( expensive but oh so tasty)
Ooooh, I've been tempted - I love their coffee.
Folgers is much too acidic for me, and 8 O'Clock leaves a funny after-taste.
We drink Melita - hooked on it would be a more accurate term.
‘I don’t drink as much coffee as I used to. I’m down to a couple of pots a day. ‘
I resemble this remark!
I’ll check it out, thanks for the link.
Sbux was good in the late 90’s, when the barista’s actually drank the stuff they were making. I find most coffee houses (with the exception of local one-off places) taste no better than what you can get at McDonalds. Don’t even get me started on Dunkin Donuts. What passes for coffee (and smoothies, but that’s another story) on the East coast doesn’t sit well with this Left coaster.
If this is about great “brews”, it should be about BEER not coffee!
