and former big Texas would lose all its swagger in politics.

After giving America LBJ, GHWB and GWB, that might not be a bad thing.

Disagree smaller or closer does not mean eaiser to solve.

One man one vote quits working when 51% of the populations wants what the other 49% has.

Add on top of that voter fraud.

"Citizen Input" to local problems has a different "flavor". The tar and feathers doesn't have to be carried quite as far!

If memory serves, from when my children studies this ...

1) Texas gave up the right to secede when it was re-admitted to the Union after the Civil War. (However it had the right to do so prior to the Civil War/War Between the States)

2) Texas can split into five separate states by virtue of the document (Congress) when re-admitted to the Union.

3) However, there is Article IV, Section 3 of the US Constitution that says how existing States can divide. Constitutional challenges?

Many questions in my mind though.

Would it be politically viable to be five states in the Union instead of one? Possibly chaos would ensue with the division. Would the majority of Texas citizens vote for this? Possibly not, with the influx of liberals into the State since 1990’s. Each State would be roughly the size of ... Arkansas ... and where would the mineral rights be predominantly located? Within one new state.

Secession would be the best answer, becoming our own nation again. Then visitors would need passports and Congress could not control our assets. But, alas ... this is not to be.

Just me rambling.

” Sorry but I don’t see how declaring state sovereignty solves any problems.

Nuts at County and State level just as corrupt as at the Federal level.

More people voted in last election in my area than registered. Local Sheriff in jail for corruption neighboring county sheriff in jail for accepting bribes.

and your right secession is also not the answer. “

No...a responsible government set up at the top level can prevent most of the corruption that the locals live for. One example: voter ID plus inking fingers...as third world countries do when they want to have fair elections. Lots of options when you no longer of courts or RINOs to deal with.

The real nuclear option is to simply pull out (along with a few other states). Once Obama’s done with his work (census included), there is no way that this country will be allowed to elect conservatives again...pretty much what happened to Europe.

You’re assuming I’m only referring to voting. Our country wasn’t freed from tyranny by voting. It was a minority movement.

If secession happens, you can bet that a lot MORE conservative will move there than liberals. I sure would (and would probably be granted citizenship as I was born in Texas (though I haven’t sadly lived there since I was a baby ;)!

Nope, look it up. Texas was a country with its own constitution. When Texas was invited to join the union, it added a right into the admission agreement that allowed Texas, without any other approval, to split into 5 states. Means 8 more US Senators. There is nothing the rest of the states can do to stop it.
