Hitler Video Dubbing Phenomenon Shocks and Amuses

YouTube

Video shows Adolf Hitler ranting over the housing bubble.

Adolf Hitler slowly raises his trembling hand and removes his glasses from his sneering, sweat-drenched face. He bellows profanities at his officers, who stare back in horror.

And what has provoked Der Fuhrer's outrage?

He has been banned from playing Xbox Live.

This is only one example of over a hundred parody videos on YouTube of a climactic scene from the 2004 movie, "Downfall," in which Hitler displays a frightening tantrum in the presence of his officers. YouTube posters have taken to pasting humorous subtitles over the action.

But not everyone is laughing. The film itself was criticized for its humanizing portrayal of the Nazi dictator. Now some people are complaining about the YouTube parodies, which play Hitler up for laughs.

An umbrella organization representing Holocaust survivors in Israel asked YouTube on Tuesday to take down one of the spoofs, in which Hitler complains about the lack of parking spaces in Tel Aviv, according to The Jerusalem Post.

The organization said that the clip was grossly insensitive to the feelings of elderly Holocaust survivors.

The clips are making fun of Hitler, what is the problem?

Keep pushing the guilt, while Israel gets $100 Billion ++++ since 1949 from the American taxpayer...

> The film itself was criticized for its humanizing portrayal of the Nazi dictator.

I hesitate to be the one pointing this out, but Hitler *was* in fact human. A very evil human, but a human all the same. Humanizing Hitler is therefore perfectly OK: doing so reminds us the depths to which Human evil can plumb, and to where humanity can once again descend if left unchecked.

It is less helpful to view him as a one-off evil inhuman object. We do so at our peril. He can happen again to the human species, if we are not careful

Derisiom, mocking and scorn are time-honored ways to treat an enemy. Donald Duck made fun of Hitler in “Der Fuherer’s Face” — probably my all-time favorite cartoon.

These parodies are along the same lines IMO. No harm, no foul.

I sure wish I knew what he was *really* saying. It’s got me interested now. It’s obviously from some movie. Now I’ll have to find out what movie... LOL...

But, from a book I was reading recently, it was said that Hitler had this outbursts and then walked away, laughing about it (with others), as if he was doing so for “show” and to impress upon others what he was trying to get across.

It's not an old movie - it's a recent German film, "Der Untergang". And it's actually a really good dramatic portrait of the last days of the Reich.

You can view it on YouTube in its entirety HERE

Am I bad for laughing at the Tel Aviv spoof?

And FWIW, Downfall is an excellent film.

LOL - That WAS funny. And apparently Tel Aviv has the same city-planners as my city...

Though the best comment was the following:
Hilarious!! was redirected here from Fox News. I didn't know Israelis had such a wicked sense of humour like us Brits! This video has done more to increase cultural understanding than 70 years of diplomacy. Still laughing!

Hitler’s freaking because his war is coming apart. He can’t keep his pledge to defend Berlin and his generals are bolting on him.

Hitler wanted to be an actor. He would practice his speeches in front of a mirror, down to the last hand gesture. He knew how to get his audience enthralled and into his character. I heard Obama practiced his campaign speeches in front of a mirror as well.

Inversion. Humor is essentially based on cognitive and emotional paradox or on exaggeration of known truths.

To see Hitler, a despotic, mad mass murderer, rail against not being able to find a parking spot in Tel Aviv is...funny. It’s funny because it would (could) never happen, and takes a known truth (Hitler railed like the mad man he was), and applies that known truth to a silly situation.

Amazing that the entire movie is on YouTube. You would have thought they would have removed it or something.

Apparently the pizza delivery is a theme. Three or four pop up if you search for “hitler pizza” — all pretty funny.
