As President Obama prepares to address a joint session of Congress tomorrow night, he receives strong grades for his first full month in office, as large majorities of Americans support his $787 billion economic stimulus package and the recently unveiled $75 billion plan for stemming mortgage foreclosures, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
60 Percent of Americans Approve Obama Handling of Economy Nearly seven in 10 believe Obama is delivering on his pledge to bring needed change to Washington, the poll found, and about eight in 10 say he is meeting or exceeding their expectations. ..
Just 37 percent of Republicans now approve , a sharp drop from a month ago when 62 percent gave him good marks...
...Obama, who spent his first weeks in office championing the huge federal outlays called for in his stimulus package, shifts the focus to his pledge to rein in federal spending, which he has called crucial to the nation's long-term prosperity.
Almost all Americans consider the size of the federal budget deficit to be a problem, with nearly six in 10 "very concerned" about it. But even so, most, 63 percent, said additional federal action will be needed to improve the economy.
Today, Obama hosted a "fiscal responsibility summit," in which 130 invitees discussed the nation's precarious long-term budget situation, which is being eroded by the runaway costs of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
Any effort to deal with the federal entitlement programs will no doubt be influenced by public pessimism over the programs' long-term viability. Few Americans are convinced the Social Security and Medicare systems are in shape to provide benefits throughout their retirements, according to the poll. Just 11 percent of those polled said they're sure Social Security will be able to pay their full benefits. ...

I was sure I saw a Rassmussen poll that showed less than 50% approved the stimulus plan last week. How does the public support for the stimulus plan square with the deficit worries?
Watch it! The Fiscal Responsibility Summit is going to decide we need more TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the Obama Administration, there are only Lies, more Lies, and Statistics. (Damned Lies). The only people that could possibly think that Obama is handling the economy well, would be.....Unions, Welfare Recipients, and possibly DemonRAT politicians / thieves. But that's redundant.
To: DBCJR
Nearly seven in 10 the 51% of chickenheads who elected him don't pay taxes. I'm sure there are at least 19% of the chickenheads out there who are afraid of losing their job and want the safety net.
If I was more cynical, I'd market "Eat the Rich John Galt" bumper stickers and probably make a killing amongst those chickenheads, but then again, they'd say "Who is John Galt?". BOHICA

Looking at their poll data, I note that the article doesn't mention the right-track/wrong-track numbers, which are 67-31 in favor of wrong-track. (Meanwhile, nearly EVERY news article based on polls during the Bush presidency mentioned those numbers).
Other data in the survey just cannot be true. It absolutely cannot be. 50% approval of the Democrats in Congress? No effing way.
46% confident that the federal government will "adequate[ly] control [distribution of the stimulus money to] avoid waste and fraud"?
64% in favor of mortgage bailouts??? Where were these questions asked, in San Francisco?

It doesn't matter. I would wager a substantial sum that not 10% of those polled have the faintest idea what his "Stimulus, Mortgage Plans" actually are. Hell, most congresspeople don't know what they voted for, so why imagine that Joe Blow knows better?
This is the epitome of manufactured propaganda masquerading as news.

I don’t care what the polls. Fascism is fascism, Marxism is Marxism and totalitarianism is totalitarianism.
So if the Anointed One has a 75% approval rating we all should all bow down and should be pleased if he lays hands on us or we get to touch his robe.
The Constitution is the Constitution; The Bible is the Bible regardless of how favored God’s word is at the time. Americans by birth and nature do not give to tyranny, regardless of the odds.
