Secession and the Re-birth of America
Self | Friday April 17th 2009 | David Burgess

Posted on 04/16/2009 7:52:34 PM PDT by DCBurgess58

Texas Governor Rick Perry used the big "S" word at a TEA party in Austin on the 15th of April. Secession, the act of a state withdrawing from the United States. His comment was not a serious suggestion, but rather an implied threat. A little red meat for an audience who are sick and tired of seeing a bloated Federal Government wringing tax dollars out of citizens and mortgaging our children's future. Not to mention destroying the promise of America.

He is talking to an audience of the disenfrachised. Common citizens who believe that if we are to continue on this road, the United States of America WILL FAIL. The greatest and noblest attempt at creating a government of the people, by the people and for the people, will be relegated to the trash heap of history as an unworkable concept. In truth our failure will be due to leftist policies, which altered our system of government and then killed it off under the ensuing mountain of debt caused by those policies.

Of course the Republicans don't get off scott free on this issue either. The Republican party has become a lost cause as an antidote to the leftward push of this country. The GOP may grumble their dissent from the left's policies but there seem to be no leftist policies which the Republican party will not eventually adapt to and accept. There is no line in the sand which the left is forbidden to cross. There are however, many lines in the sand drawn by the left which the Republicans are unable to cross once the territory has been ceded. These policy shifts are strictly a one-way street (to be fair to the Republicans, however, the left has masterfully manipulated the Judiciary, declaring their policies "legal" and positions contrary to their policies "illegal").

Quite frankly, our country is like a car heading down a freeway, headed for a brick wall somewhere off in the distance. The driver has no intention of slowing down or turning off the road. In the back seat, a skinny passenger on the left keeps commenting on how much he hates this old car and how much nicer it would be to have a new car. A fat guy in the middle of the back seat seems oblivious to what is going on as he listens to his MP3 player and stares at the scenery flying by. A skinny guy on the right side of the back seat tries to tell the driver to slow down and take an exit from the freeway. Each time the skinny guy in the rear right side tries to talk though, the guy in the front passenger seat (The Press), talks loudly over him, disagreeing, criticizing, asking the skinny guy on the left for his opinion and ultimately mocking the skinny guy on the right, so that no one will hear what he is actually saying (The press wants to have a shiny new car too).

As far as analogies go, the car heading for the brick wall pretty well sums up the path our country is taking for me. I feel like that skinny guy in the right rear seat. I am totally disenfranchised in the United States. My vote means nothing. I can't elect anyone who can stop the destruction of America. Those in power are either driving our country to ruin or doing nothing to stop it. Aside from Fox news, AM radio, and some of the internet, the press has been taken over by the political left, to the point where it is virtually impossible to get any news which is not tainted by the editorialists of the left.

Rick Perry's talk of secession got me to thinking that breaking apart the United States is probably the only way of saving it. Imagine if all the "red states" seceeded from the United States. We would finally be able to fix the problems in our home states by starting over. Go back to the original concept that the founding fathers intended. Modify the areas which have been exploted to our country's detriment.

We could clarify that in the freedom of religion, that we are a Judeo Christian nation and that other religion's are allowed only on a basis of our toleration and subject to banning (hey, if the Muslims can ban us, what the heck, plus we could shut down those cults like Scientology). We could enshrine that there is no seperation of chuch and state, only a ban on the government having an official state religon (like the Anglican church in England). We could limit the press, just a bit, with reasonable constrants on them being politicized, publishing classified information and eliminate their ability to use "unnamed" sources. We could fix the judicial system by limiting their function to being an advisor to the legislative and executive branches, not their overlord, with their primary function being reverted to criminal and civil trials. We could restore the concept of State's Rights and limit the Federal Government to enumerated functions only. We could secure our borders, to include keeping undesirable elements from our former union OUT. We could restore the promise and freedom that has been taken from us. Most of all, we could leave the States that chose not to seceed with their DEBT!

I think it's time we began having a serious discussion about secession. Unlike the Confederacy, which was an agrarian economy taking on the Industrialized north, the red states would be far more sustainable than the blue states. They would have New England/New York/New Jersy/a few rust belt states, Illinois and the left coast. We would have everything else. Okay fellow FReepers, your thoughts?

The red state blue state model doesn’t work. Most blue states are mostly red. Here in Michigan democrats only regularly win 10 or so of our 83 counties.

Wow, this really floors me. Talk of secession?

Then again, I never ever thought we would see the Soviet Union dissolve into a number of independent countries.

Hard to imagine the United States breaking up into different countries. But, there are distinct places in this country. There are key differences socially, culturally, politically, between the more conservative traditional areas of the country and the liberal places.

Stay tuned. We may be living through history.

it’s not a model, I’m suggesting that we get a real discussion going about secession, Michigan would be more than welcome to seceed or not, that is up to the American population. I’m just saying it’s time to start talking about it

Anyone hear Jerry Rivers....I mean Geraldo tonight who called Perry a nut job? Geraldo, the man who made a point of constantly informing us how he sailed into dangerous waters with the Egyptian coast guard boarding his dingy( he'll hate his yacht being called a frigin dingy)He didn't admit he was rescued and left his crew to continue the voyage however). Geraldo is such a waste of intelligence. He wants open borders and a liberal America(as long as he can live like Tony Soprano in his mansion in Jersey) Give it up Jerry. you and Springer along with all your twits are on the way out.

Tell me Dilbert, would you support two America’s if you could live in the the one that was not gonna go bankrupt and was true to the founding father’s vision. Not some Liberals socialism fantasy version that they’ve been shoving down our throats?

Texas seceeded from Mexico in 1836. I wonder if Geraldo thinks they were nut jobs for that? Were the Georgians nut jobs for seceeding fro the USSR?

“I mean Geraldo tonight who called Perry a nut job?”

He (and the rest of the MSM) have NO CHOICE but to try to label Perry and other people talking about secession as kooks, as that is their only chance of keeping this movement from getting legs, and getting serious. We have to expect that reaction.

But the discussion has been started, and it’s not Ron Paul or Rush Limbaugh, instead it’s the Governor of the second most populous state in the country...they cannot put the genie back in the bottle...people (defined as taxpayers) in Texas are angry and now (finally) have a way to protest that cannot be ignored by the Elites.

How would you even get something like that started? The minute you declared, you’d all the governments acronyms at your doorstep, assuming you had enough people interested enough to be considered threatening.

They have no problem being quick and decisive when it comes to things like Waco, Ruby Ridge, or that Mormon compound. How would you get through the first few weeks?

if Texas succeeds, I will definitely move there. I have NO LOVE WHATSOEVER for the government of this country, or the idiots who elected it.

You got it. We need to ensure that the splitup is along country lines and not state lines, to the extent possible. Basic reality is that no marriage this bad would last fifteen seconds and everybody knows it.

This is state of 23,000,000 people. It will not be so easy for the feds if they want to intimidate us. Their only hope would be what’s left of the military...and two thirds of those guys are from the South. The FBI, DEA, and others are real tough in small circumstances...but they are not anywhere near being an army.

Do you mean secedes, or succeeds in seceding? Not to be the grammar police, but because alot of people would probably make the trip if Texas succeeded in seceding, but not many will leave their homes to make it happen.

Texas is succeeding where other states are failing. We Texans are talking about seceding.

But how would you go about seperating? A statewide vote?
How would you get something like that on the ballot?

It gets started when the American people start talking about it. There’s no point in forming “an organisation”. When people all over the country start talking about it. An idea gains momentum.

Step 1 would be a commission to study the concept and figure out the details.

Step 2 would be statewide vote, similar to a constitutional amendment...no big deal.

Step 3 (assuming the vote passed), would be to begin negotiations.

Step 4 (hopefully) will be a peaceful separation. Texas gets its independence as an independent country, and the remaining US gets rid of their largest red state and gets to implement the European model essentially without opposition.

I’m with you. Geraldo is an ignorant, shallow, empty man.
I wrote hannity an email and let him know how angry that
man made me tonight. I hope hannity will never let him on his show again and I personally believe he does not belong on Fox News and should be fired. I love Governor Perry!!!

Hell here in IL we wish we could just secede from the money-sucking corruption pit that is Chicago! They can have the collar counties and all their toll roads, we’ll take the cornfields and cows and do just fine.

What’ll they do, trade us movies or derivates for some sacks of flour?
