OK I'll (vanity) it: The Mexican flu is total Bull. Must be a distraction.

Posted on 04/25/2009 5:37:59 PM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

Haven't seen so much media-generated hysteria since forever.

But it's all bull. Smoke. All of it.

Every. Single. Year. 30,000 Americans are killed by this exact same Flu. Type A.

How many Americans have succumbed to this one?

(that's a rhetorical question)

I suspect, this is all an elaborate ruse. To cover up our "dear leader's" plummeting approval numbers.

Someone, has been doing some polling. That's what I think.

It’s all irrational hysteria until you die yourself!

Don’t be an imbecile. This is not a media inspired con.

The Mexican swine flu is a weird variant of H1N1, enough of a mutation that previous vaccinations are not working against it.

Right now the CDC, the WHO, the Mexican government, the Canadian government, the British government, and the Mexican health care industry are freaking out about this. People are dropping like flies.

Tell you what. In one week one epidemiologist is predicting that 500,000 Mexicans are going to be sick. Is that enough to persuade you that this is not just media hype?

Even if it isn’t a diaper load, most people believe that it is because the big Zero has lied about everything else. It is impossible to tell is he is lying or not. So no one can trust his word. Hey Michelle, paying attention?

“Right now the CDC, the WHO, the Mexican government, the Canadian government, the British government, and the Mexican health care industry are freaking out about this. People are dropping like flies.”

The thing is, people are “dropping like flies” to normal flu strands, too. And heart disease. And cancer. And highway travel. And slipping in the tub. It’s perfectly normal for people to be dropping like flies over something.

This is scaring people who are payed to be sacred. Fine for them. As for the media, they have absolutely no sense of proportion. Everything new scares the hell out of them. If deaths can be avoided by scientists running around like chickens with their heads cut off, fine. Reporting on it like it’s the black death, as the MSM has done over and over, being proved wrong time and time again, not fine.

OK a challenge is a challenge. Fair and square.

In response to the challenge in post 52. Doesn’t the CDC report to the NHS, the Department of Health and Human Services, which reports to the Executive Branch?

Which reports to Obama?

I mean I’m not trying to don a tin foil hat here - but this administration has shown a (very) strong willingness to politicize just about anything.

I’m sure not a few FReepers will recognize that as a fact.

OK now. On to the next post.

(whew) This honest challenge stuff is sort of fun.

BRB... :)

Since Obama doesn't want to close the borders, I don't see this as some king of scheme. This is the kind of thing that will get folks agitated to close the borders. Why would the current administration want to alarm folks? Doesn't make sense to me.

Because he wants to push his socialized health care through Congress and fast.

Yes it is a flu mutation of a few different ones.
4 here in San Diego had it and recovered.
The Public Health Dept. have kept up with info here.

We just don’t get worked up about it, living in a large city and Tijuana, Mexico just south of us.
The San Diego - Tijuana border crossing is the largest and busiest in the world.

Just last year around 600+ people were killed in Tijuana by the drug cartels and dozens with heads decapitated
Just last week several bodies found with one decapitated.
Army patroling in the streets, etc.

This trumps the flu.

Sometimes simple honesty is the best policy.

(in response to the challenge, in post 52)

I’ve heard for some time, that (more) than 30,000 Americans are killed every year by influenza.

I have also understood, it is type-A influenze (this type) which is by far the most prevalent.

Those are the two presumptions upon which, the original post was based. If they’re wrong, I’ll welcome readers to show otherwise. Not a problem.

I mean, I’m just as happy to panic as the next FReeper.

(aaaaaahhhhhhhhh.............)

Rhetorically, running into the hills. :)

Bull or Not.......Just another important reason to secure the border!

And if it secures the border I don’t care if it’s true or not. It’s amazing more things like this haven’t happened in the past.

The key is this is NOT Type-A, but, a strain of it.

WOW. There is no way to know how bad it wiill get. It was just announced this week by Mexico, and has been there since at least March. Media has underplayed this. I’ve barely seen anything on it. Most of Fox was on torture memos. Meanwhile CDC is still not telling people to avoid Mexico.

Yes and there is a certainly going to be that suspicion but the CDC however is not the type that just goes overboard in fact they try to tamper things and tend to only warn when it is necessary. The WH and the press corp is another deal altogether however that doesn’t make this any less of a potentially serious situation. Question the potential severity, that is fine, but don’t say stuff like it is the same flu that effects us all the time because even under Obama I don’t think that would be news.

WTF does this have to do with Obama?

Ummm .... Aft_lizard, why don't you breathe into a paper bag and re-read my post and re-read (or read for the first time .... I also plead "Guilty" to sometimes reading only the headline of a thread) the text of the vanity thread we are both replying to.

The post was not solely addressed to you. It was addressed as follows:

"Polybius to aft_lizard; Cringing Negativism Network; Cicero"

WTF does this have to do with Obama?

Read the original vanity posted by Cringing Negativism Network:

"I suspect, this is all an elaborate ruse. To cover up our "dear leader's" (Obama's) plummeting approval numbers."

The Obama comment had nothing to do with you. The Obama comment directly addressed the major point of this vanity thread: "This is all a ruse to cover up Obama's plummeting approval numbers."

Besides that you are sounding completely uneducated here. I have studied virology and microbiology. Because two old people die from the flu doesn’t mean that its the same for every flu.

I have studied virology and microbiology too. If I hadn't, I would not have an M.D. hanging on my office wall. If you re-read my post, you will realize that I was fully agreeing with what you wrote.

I did not challege your position, I fully agreed with your position.

What concerns everybody is the fact that the young and healthy died, like what happened during the 1918 Spanish Flu and the 1976 outbreak.

Yes, I know. I pointed that out.

"When 86 year old Mrs. Bernstein dies of a particular flu strain, that's just The Natural Order of Things. ..... When two healthy 27 year old medical interns die in the same hospital of a particular flu strain, you have a very nasty, newly-mutated bug." ...... 29 posted on Saturday, April 25, 2009 6:07:38 PM by Polybius

I don't think this would help. Doesn't make sense. Anyone without insurance is going to go to the emergency room and get treated, regardless.

Being treated for this flu is not the same thing as going bankrupt due to expensive cancer treatment.

Try not to be a complete novice regarding virology. This strain has bird, swine and human flu elements in it.

Is it the end of the world? No. Is it enough of a pandemic possibility (think 1918) to take some precautions, you damn well better believe it.
