"The Godfather, Part II" should never have been made.

No matter that it won six Oscars, including best picture, and is widely considered the best movie sequel ever.

According to Francis Ford Coppola, who won three of those Oscars, it was a movie that should not exist

Now, if he was talking about Godfather III, he would have a point!

Fine, regardless of whether there was 1,2 or 3 Godfathers. How many movies would have made it to the studio, much less the script if it were exposing the radical Muslim culture.
Italians have been tainted with the perception of being ‘’connected’’ to an underworld evil empire. If you have a vowel at the end of your name, you're chances of being given a second look, but if your name is Mohammad or something that may imply your heritage to be of one of the Eastern countries you are considered a racist if you raise your eyebrows at the mention of the name. Hate crimes are never considered if the recipient is Italian or Irish, but have a Muslim get mugged and it's a hate crime. I have now concluded my Monday rant.

Seeing FFC’s daughter killed at the end of G3 was horrific - the only scene I can recall.

Maybe somebody here can explain something about Godfather II that was never clear to me:

What exactly did Fredo do to help Hyman Roth and Johnny Ola set up the attempted hit on Michael in his house after the party?

I disagree. Michael was a man alone in his death. Only the cat is there. After his daughter got killed at the Opera (because of his business) that was the end of his family. Michael was also a terrible Godfather. He didn’t consider it to be “the family”, it was all about him. Evident when he tells tom Hagan he doesn’t want to kill everybody, only “his” enemies. For all his other faults. Fredo was right about the way Michael came to Vegas and tried to push out Moe Green (who is Bugsy Segal and built Las Vegas. The old man never would have done that.

JMHO, Italians really don’t object to how they’re portrayed in the Godfather trilogy.

If you’re Italian, what’s wrong with everyone thinking you’re a bad dude not to be messed with? People then leave you alone with no additional effort on your part.

Muslims, OTOH, not only seek to inspire fear, they want to be worshipped as the really superior people the Koran says they are. When they’re not, they go berserk, as the Koran also commands them.

When Johnny Ola is introduced to Michael, and Fredo is with him, Fredo says they’ve never met. Then when they go to see “Superman”, Fredo tells everyone that Johnny Ola told him about the place. That’s when Michael knows Fredo was doing stuff on the side with Ola.

He gave them certain information about Michael not thinking what he did would cause a hit. He wanted something for himself and was a duence and it showed.

The subtext in the saga was the character flaws of all three Corleone sons. Sonny was strong but ill-tempered and reckless. Fredo was loyal to his father but weak. Michael was intelligent but vain. The tragedy was that these flaws led to their downfalls. And others in the family suffered from the flaws of these men.

Bingo.
Watching his daughter get shot in the gut made up for the hours of torture that preceded.

Fredo is more than likely the person that left the drapes open which signaled the room to the hit men. Plus of course whatever side dealings (probably promises to support Roth across the board) that made Roth decide to do the hit.

Exactly! Godfather III was boring and too long. I fell asleep in the movie theater when I went to see it.

G-III was beyond stupid, and Coppolla is too if he thinks that one should have been made.

I remember the scene where she was killed and then Michael dying outside and a small puppy yelping in surprise as he falls out of his chair.

Coppolla is wrong. GII is a materpiece.

The ‘prequel’ parts in Godfather II are what makes the movie great. He shows how a man can become evil. He shows a painful history. And the sets and the filming is amazing.

In a real like parallel. Kim Jong Il turned over the family business of North Korea to his youngest son Kim Jong Un. Kim Jong Fredo will be sent to Cuba.

Thanks.

Also, it's assumed that Fredo then killed the two hit men who were found in the storm drain, which I found difficult to believe. In Godfather I, Fredo is completely ineffective when Solozza's men shot Vito Corleone as he was buying fruit. Fredo became completely unglued, fumbled around, dropped his gun, and was unable to do anything to protect his father. In Godfather II, we are led to believe that he managed to get to the two hit men before anyone else, and slit their throats (even though there were two of them, and they were armed with machine guns.)

Loved G2. Watch it fairly often. The 3rd one, eh, not so much.

Maybe Fredo practiced, the hit on his father was the first time he was really involved in anything. He also might have had help.
