Word For The Day, Monday, 6/29/09
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. utterly unyielding or firm in attitude or opinion. Unyielding; inflexible: "If there is one dominant trait that emerges from this account, it is adamantine willpower" (Eugene Linden). 2. too hard to cut, break, or pierce. 3. like a diamond in luster.
Etymology:12001250; ME < L adamantinus < Gk adamántinos. See adamant, -ine 1
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Billy Mays bumped his head on an airplane, but said he had a hard head. He had an adamantine opinion about his head.
May God rest his soul.
Good morning. Only 106 here today. Supposed to rain, but I think there’s a huge dust storm coming in.
Are we going to find you on the naughty teacher ping list?
A+++ amazing that billy mays head is topping the list of homework topics today! LOL! i always think of you and cyber with the BLINDED me with science song!
Love that song. The background messages are great. We have that song “She’s Blinded Me with Silence” in the car when traveling.
What a nice guy you are, CJ. I truly mean it.
I'm sorry, SD, but how do you wake up dead? He was just complaining of a headache before he went to sleep. His wife woke up alive and found him dead.
Cj IS a wonderful guy. hanging by an extremely tenuous single thread to sanity, but wonderful nonetheless... LMAO! you know i love you, ceej!
I couldn’t remember that line, but that’s what Cyber says to me.
It’s an expression, innit? Says in three words what you said in more.
And Jacko even though dead is $500M in debt. A little too many payoffs, do you think?
Hi there stranger - how you doing?
It’s starting to undecline now according to Bloomberg. Keep your chin up!
Y’all are too sweet!
There are a couple of bugs in that jewel. Did you put them there?
I can’t believe anyone would be able to make a sex tape with John Edwards - he would keep stopping to fix his hair
I will definitely be adding that to my cvollection of M0 pics. :)
i don’t know how much credence to put in the accounts of Michelle being a drinker.
My son loves DL
That’s what happens when idiots who claim to be professionals join unions. That’s just one more reason they will never catch on nationwide.
This is a way to bring even MORE English mangling foreign nurses to the US
And it’s older than he is!
My twins, being 13, don’t really like anything I listen to. My oldest, though, loves classic rock.
Lots of damage there, but nobody got killed.
I got part of the storm friday night, it was really cool to watch it come across the water.
is TN a right to work state?
well i told you about the tons of african nurses at Arlington Hosp when i was there. totally unreal.
xsbrownie and xsteen both like classic rock!
OH gosh yes - my son is really into classic rock much more so than current stuff. In fact his 18th birthday gift was two tickets to see them in August...
I don’t really understand what that means. Do we have nurses unions? No. Doesn’t everyone already have the right to work?
The drummer should be wearing something other than panties. He doesn’t have a muscle that I can see. I really checked. LOL!
She just looks so angry all the time, like it’s right under the surface, ready to go. So she drinks and he smokes? What a lovely couple.
I hated it when I first heard it, but now I love it. Thanks for thinking about us.
Forced unionism sounds very unAmerican to me. It sounds Obamian. Brrr, that was the chill that ran up my spine.
being a right to work state is a term of art. The reason i mention WV is because xshub and i were at the Homestead or the Greenbrier, whichever one is in WV, and the doorman could not pick up our bags and put them in the car, that job was reserved to one of the porters. literally who does what is categorized by job down to a tee, and in the union contract. it was mindboggling to me and it was the first time i could visually see the difference between the states in that regard.
when we first moved to PA we noticed the co my husband was working for didn’t have the co logo on their work trucks. To us that was just free advertising but we soon learned you didn’t want anyone realizing who you were if you happened to cross that Jersey State line..... they didn’t like non-union guys in their territory...
the concept has been around quite awhile, but that doesn’t make it less scary. the obamian goal would be to make all 57 [RoR] states forced unionism states.
non-union=scabs. i grew up hearing that word from my dad. he didn’t like ‘em either.
that’s weird though bc both NJ and PA are forced union states.
Some people during surgery (or even Billy Mays for that matter) have said they have looked down on themselves while unconscious. Some wake up, but apparently Billy did not.
Holy moley! Hope they had a basement.
doing well, right now very sweaty..just finished my workout. How are things going with you?
It’s got to peak at sometime, hopefully soon.
Pretty good thanks - the heat is a killer this year
I’m gonna go out in a while to stimulate the local economy. Rush the turtle is nearly out of food, CG is nearly out of cologne, the hummingbirds need a new feeder, and I just want something new & pretty.
Yes but our industry didn’t have a union
economy can use all the stimulating it can get!
