“CPS to hire mentors for at-risk youth”
Friday, October 23, 2009 | 5:42 PM
Story MediaTop Stories
By Charles Thomas

October 23, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) —

SNIPPET: “Dubois says the CPS plan to spend $5 million to mentor only 200 students at risk for violent behavior might not be worth the expense.”

SNIPPET: “Pennsylvania-based Youth Advocate Programs (YAP) will not say how many youth advocates—as they’re called—will be hired to spend at least 16 hours a week with each of the teenagers.

The company also would not tell ABC7 Chicago how much each college-degreed advocate would be paid, but ABC7 is told that applications are being accepted through the YAP Web site.”

Dave Says - October 12, 2009

“Collecting receivables”

SNIPPET: “Dear Dave,

My dad died earlier this year, and as a result my mom and I inherited his auto parts business. He had a lot of accounts receivable piled up, and we need to collect these to keep the business going. We live in a small town, where everyone knows each other. What’s the best way to handle this?
Susan

Dear Susan,
I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s never easy when a parent or spouse passes away. I’m glad that you and your mom are working together, though. Hopefully, it has helped you two make it through this rough time.

I would make a list of the accounts, and go visit them all personally. Just have a polite, sit-down conversation, where you explain your situation, and ask for their help in getting things current.”

“Ontario sees third straight month of job growth”

Updated: Fri Oct. 09 2009 3:56:15 PM

ctvtoronto.ca

SNIPPET: “Ontario’s unemployment rate fell in September as the growth in full-time jobs trumped the shrinkage in part-time employment.

In Statistics Canada’s labour force survey released Friday, Ontario gained 61,500 full-time jobs last month while losing 48,900 part-time positions.

The increase of 12,600 jobs, when balanced against a population increase and labour force decrease, left the province’s unemployment rate at 9.2 per cent, down from 9.4 per cent in August.

Vincent Ferrao, a Statistics Canada analyst, told ctvtoronto.ca that growth in self-employment accounted for about 10,000 of the net new jobs. Public sector growth offset private sector losses to account for the other 2,600 new jobs, he said.

“It would be nice to see more private sector jobs,” Ferrao said.

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell to 8.4 per cent in September, down from 8.7 per cent in August. The national economy gained 91,600 full-time jobs and lost 61,000 part-time jobs.”

Sometime yesterday I heard a report on the radio that some human resource departments are amazed by some of the EMAIL ADDRESSES given by their job applicants.

Advice was to be sure that you don't have a "cutesy" or "humorous" or immature sounding email address, it leaves a really bad impression. I doubt any freepers need this advice, but I'm passing it along in case anyone asks you for help in their job hunts.

CouchPotatoOnStrike@hottestmail.com simply isn't a wise idea to put on a resume, LOL, but evidentally this problem of really inappropriate email addies is pervasive.

And here's an article posted today at FR about resume writing:

Is Your Resume Costing You a Dream Job?
