Copying over pictures and stuff from the old one, which is going to take all night....
It’s got Vista, so it’s very strange and foreign to me... scary scary!

Oh... I kid. It’ll probably be OK. But I would upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as you can. It’ll be out soon. It’s pretty much the “workable” service pack on Vista.
I’ve been running a Win 7 release candidate on my old laptop at the office for a few months now. It’s pretty sweet so far. I especially like the execution of their bitlocker encryption. Seems pretty schweet.
The re-arrangement of everything takes a while to get used to, but I’ve decided that I like it.
Yah, I’ve already registered with Dell for our free Win7 upgrade.
This new computer is wicked fast, though! Now I want a new one too. :)
Oh gadz... I'd forgotten about that. That's exactly the problem with Coen brothers' movies. I remember all the funny parts and forget the wierd parts and then convince my Dad and Dona to sit down and watch it... and then oh... crap. It's like when I thought they'd just love "Fargo" like I do... and utterly forgot how vile the language was. Same thing happened with "Office Space".
It'd be nice on DVD's if you could choose different edits of the film... like a "G" version... a "PG" and a the full version. Why not? There's some great stuff in movies that, for some audiences... they can't deal with those moments of vileness.
Granted... there's some movies, like "Team America..." for which there can be no "G" rated version. But for lots of movies, a few bleeps here and there and a few tiny edits could open up whole new worlds of popular culture to audiences that would never see them.

This is a Core 2 duo 3GHz with 4GB RAM. Heck of an upgrade from a 200MHz processor (I think) with 384MB of RAM.
I've got to get ours working again, but first my stitches have to heal up enough so I don't tear myself up wrestling it out of the garden shed. I sprained my shoulder the last time, and that was bad enough. It probably weighs 400 lbs.
It's probably 20 years old now, and never had an engine rebuild. Heavy, wet snow is rough on it (and me). I should probably look for something newer with more power (and not much more size). Five horsepower only goes so far.

I’m late, but the new room looks great. Good to see some old timers drop in.
The studios already chop up the movies for showing on television. With all the space available on Blu-Ray you'd think there'd be no problem including the edited for TV cut on the disk.
Someone needs to email hollywood with this idea. I bet it'd result in higher Blu-Ray sales if people know they can have the edited version along with the complete version.
I remember hearing on Glenn Beck's radio show once about a service he used to edit rated-R movies down to a PG-PG13 level. I can't remember the name of the service now.
Those services have popped up, done great business, and then get sued out of existence by movie studios. Even ones where you buy the VHS tape and they physically remove the objectionable scenes. Movie studios don’t like people “messing with” their stuff. Getting them to include a G rated version on the disk would seem the way to go but I don’t think they will.
Not unless Walmart decided to try pushing the idea. They might be able to make it happen like how they’ve gotten “censored” versions of some albums.
Well, all is zipping along at a blazing speed here on my new computer, even the errors happen quickly!
We networked my old computer and it spent all night copying over all my gigabytes of pictures and videos and folders from my old documents folder.
We seem to have some kind of issue with the Office 2000 install, something about Outlook 2000 seems to not agree with the new puter. It won’t save my settings and I can’t send mail or import my address book or folders from the old outlook. For now, I can receive, but not send, mail.
So we don’t know if that’s fixable or if I’ll need to do something else. Any ideas?
The error Outlook is giving is that the WAB DLL could not be found.
I tried copying the two wab dll files from the Program Files/Common Files directory into Windows/System32, but that didn’t fix it.
I think she needs to use a newer mail reader, like Mozilla Thunderbird, but that’s just me. ;)
Seems like you could do it with a network enabled player and a service it contacts to get the list of what time stamps to skip over. hmmm.
At some point... like when your software is almost a decade old... it might be time to just use something new.

If I did more power computing, I’d buy a new version of Office. The truth is, I don’t any more and the software was not in my way...
I guess I’d get used to anything, I just am used to how Outlook works, and wanted to resist all this talk of Change!

I agree wholeheartedly! It would open up a HUGH market for DVD sales to families who would like to see movies with their kids, but don't want to have to explain things to the younger ones while doing so.
There was a group that was doing this, and I think they were sued by some film-makers or something like that for ruining the original spirit of the movies.
Give me a break!

I think this is the latest I’ve ever checked into a Hobbit Hole thread. *waves* I’m still alive, though rather feverish tonight. Was home sick from work today, and I’m beginning to think I won’t make tomorrow, either. Which kinda stinks considering how little off-time I have saved up at the moment. I’d like to hunt down whoever gave me this whatever-it-is.

Did you apply all service packs?
Yeah, we did the Windows updates. It looks like the problem is due to Outlook 2000 relying on Outlook Express components, which Vista doesn’t have.
Tonight I got her set up with Thunderbird instead. It was a bit of a hassle getting everything imported from Outlook on the old computer, but it worked. :)

Yep, tis true. I know how uncomfortable our college aged kids are watching sexy scenes in movies when they're with us. EEK!
The language hasn't been an issue since Joseph was 13 or so. We just informed them that they were gonna hear stuff said that we didn't allow in our house. They were cool with that, and it opened up a wide range of movie possibilities.
We wanted to see Panic Room, and read the review at a site that gave LOTS of info to parents looking to make decisions about movies. The site said that the "F" word was spoken 56 times. We told Joseph this before the movie, again with the reminder that we don't use the word in our house. It was a very good movie, and at the end of it, Joseph informed us that they actually used the word 65 times. Heh.

There was a ‘misunderstanding’ about the trailer hitches? They looked great to me. The salt and pepper should get them going at the company lunchroom...
The First new Law and Order show of the season has them prosecuting Vice President Cheney for War Crimes! More directly they are prosecuting former Justice Department official Chu, for his memos regarding harsh interrogation techniques, and everybody up the chain of command (How they got Cheney in the chain of command I don't know). I have always liked L&O despite its bias, but this is unacceptable. Amusingly they have an Obama justice official defending the Bush folks.
Makes me kinda glad we don't watch that show.
The first new episode of "Ghost Whisperer" was ok, now the new "Medium" is up....
