Jamie Foxx signs on for ‘Zebra Murders’

November 14th, 2007 - 2:48 am ICT by admin

The pic is based on Prentice Earl Sanders and Bennett Cohen’s 2006 book by the same name.

Matt Carnahan writing the screenplay for the bigscreen.

The plot revolves around a series of racially motivated serial killings — black on white — that took place in San Francisco in 1973 and 1974.

Foxx will be playing the role of real-life cop Sanders, who was one of two black police detectives who led the team that cracked the case, reports Variety.

The movie will also tell how Sanders and his partner fought harassment within the police department as they carried out their investigation. The duo also organized a union of minority policemen who brought a lawsuit against the city for discrimination, which they ultimately won.

Sanders went on to become chief of police.

Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner will be producing through their Plan B shingle along with Foxx and Jaime Rucker King.

Jeremy Kleiner, Marcus King and Shelby Stone will exec produce.

“Zebra Murders” will be distributed worldwide by DreamWorks/Paramount. (ANI)

Or a movie about the Black Muslim siege in DC or the New Orleans rampage or the Beltway snipers?

If it is black on white crime, I’m sure there will be a spin somehow that infers the white victims somehow incurred their doom upon themselves.

Will the movie include the roll that Farakahn and the Nation of Islam played in the Zebra Murders?
I doubt it. Read the book years ago. Bunch of cold blooded murderers. They got “Points” for killing white people. More points given for women, even more for children. To become “Angels of Islam”, or something like that - been a long time.

Did the book touch on it? If not then it won't be in the movie.

There was a movie out in 2007 about the "guy in the windshield" case. They turned the horrible story of the death of Gregory Biggs into a so called " black comedy"-and Chante Mallard was portrayed by blonde white actress Mena Suvari. The abomination is called Stuck.

There was also a (mercifully stalled) attempt to turn the Wichita Horror into entertainment. In an interview with the director, he said the film would be a serious account of all the victims-and his count of the victims made it plain he counted the two Carr brothers as victims too. Fortunately, that film appears to be quite dead-dead as the five humans murdered by the loathsome Carr brothers.

I am hopeful that this film will NOT follow these precedents.

“To become “Angels of Islam”, or something like that - been a long time.”

The label is “Death Angels”
Wings were earned for 9 white men,5 white women or 4 white children. Gus Coreris and John Fotinos in SFPD Homicide did the work that shut down the Death Angels in SF. The SF episode was part of a statewide investigation into organized black on white murders in CA at the time.

“Zebra” by Clark Howard is the better account. When I first became aware of the book I tried to get it at the SF Library. It could not be checked out and the staff went in back and brought the book to you, allowing you only 30 minutes to look through the book. I finally got a copy at a used book store. Apparently the book was “restricted” at the library.

Never claimed you didn’t. As for me, I suppose it was necessary for me to add /sarcasm tags to my post. Mea culpa.

Probably not (or we hope not).

Wow, I nearly forgot about that case. It WAS bizaar. I can’t believe they made a black comedy of something like that based on real life. I recall watching Really Bad Things (?), which was stomach turning. Moreso if it has been somewhat factual.

I think you are talking about Very Bad Things. I tried to watch it once, never finished, never will.

That would be it. One of only two movies I’ve ever had to leave early. And I have a fairly good tolerance for disturbing films.

They were not named by NAME, but there were enough references about who they were talking about that it could not be anyone else.

“Zebra” that’s the book I read. Like I said, it’s been a long time.
